No one at Freo, but with the other clubs.
I've been watching how some of the older 'champs' have been performing this season - and was surprised in the dramatic performance dips in some of them. Here's my list of the players that shouldn't be thinking playing footy beyond this year:
Luke Hodge - hardly the tough general of the past, he's making more mistakes than initiating plays - some of them downright embarrassing. A great player in the past, but he should hang up the boots before the end of the year - I honestly think he's making an ass out of himself out there.
Brendan Goddard - used to be more dangerous than almost anyone with his boot in free space, now he's got to be leading his team with clangers. Slow, his thinking has gone south as have his skills.
Sam Mitchell - he was never speedy, but he is painfully slow now. Sure, great with the handball from a fixed position, but you won't find many games that will cope with a player rooted to a spot anymore. Gorn, should've taken a coaching role instead.
Nick Riewoldt - not sure why you would keep him in the team, maybe you just like kms travelled without much impact. Every now and then pops up for a mark (or a goal) but I would've kept Josh Bruce in the side and sent Ol' Nick to the magoos.
Jobe Watson - not a ball getter/mover anymore, looks about as agile as a forklift. Slow, rusty skills and his decision making is sad to watch.
Steve Johnston - nup, there can't be too much value in having gramps around just in case you need something special in the finals. List clogger.
Matt Priddis - you really gotta wonder what that Other Mob are thinking, but every week there he is. With Mitchell he makes their midfield look like a Morris 1100 in second gear going up a hill.
Then again, it would be easy to add in a heap more: Gibson, Burgoyne and (sadly) Roughhead (Hawks); Morris and Boyd (Bulldogs); Lonergan, Mackie and Taylor (Cats); Montagna and Gilbert (Saints); Thompson (Crows - but he's already gorn really).
Just my thoughts - how about yours?
