There is a long list of people you can blame for a player not being able to kick, including:
  • the bloke who can't kick;
  • the recruiting bloke who drafted the bloke who can't kick;
  • the bloke who hired and is in charge of the recruiting bloke who drafted the guy who can't kick;
  • the bloke whose job it is to teach the bloke how to kick;
  • the bloke who is charge of the coaches who can't teach the bloke who can't kick; and
  • the bloke who contracted the coach who is in charge of the coaches who can't teach the bloke who can't kick.
If you were so inclined, you could argue the bloke can kick, but suffers from lack of fitness or confidence, or people to kick to. Each one of those has a list of people you could also point to a number of people who were responsible.

It takes a village to put together a team this bad.

It's obvious many on this site have had a gutfull with the club, administrators, recruiters, coaches and players. After 21 years with little success to gloat about, how can you disagree right. Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I like what's happened to Freo in the last 5 -6 years. Most importantly I like the team we've got and the coaches that are responsible. The reason is because I can't see myself supporting another club and I wouldn't. Unless they're deregistered.

Surely the drafting group has the most to answer for. You can't draft one proven player in seven years (Lachie Neale) and expect to succeed. This situation is compounded by a lack of courage and imagination in selections.

Play the ball.
We got to the GF and 16 others didn't. I went and paid plenty to be there, was I or anyone else glad we lost, of course not.

Funny thing is people forget that with that team we probably shouldn't have even been in a GF, let alone only lose by 15 points. Man for man we were well short of the quality of the Hawks. The coach got us there.

Sorry, silly comment, but why shouldn't we have got there? You could say that WB shouldn't have got to GF let alone won it. They only have on class player in Bontempelli.
We also finished minor premiers and a lot think we were fortunate to do that. It's the dramatic slump since then that most are pi55ed off with. We were promised and expected sustained success. Clubs like Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong and the slime have been up for years, some cases with the same coach, others with different ones. We were like a blip who after years of support were proud to be Freo supporters, now we're fast becoming a laughing stock again. In such a short time, it's inexcusable.

Only the players paid for last years disaster ....meanwhile the manegment was to worried renewing there own contracts when is clear by Ross words that they got it wrong and there was no quick fix.....by the way we're a "no excuses club" and "any time any where".....how cultures change quickly

@jezza That 7.2 goes down to 4.2 when you factor in the uncharacteristic bonehead turnovers from Johnson that resulted in 3 easy goals. Makes you wonder if the players get slammed by the coach though for going back to basics ie Johnson could have kicked down the wing to a 50-50 contest. Instead, he kicked it to a player still in the inside 50 that had 3 players within 15m of him.

I don't think our 22 is settled by a long shot and it showed on Sunday. Neale looked a little out of place with Fyfe back, forward line didn't gel, and I think Johnson is a placeholder for A Pearce (as far as position in the backline, not spot in the 22).

Time will tell with this new "plan". Not entirely sold on it, but at least its not pure RoLy ball.

Kicking to a 50-50 down the wing is the last option, especially with a tall marking team like Geelong. Kicking to a loose player inside 50 with just enough space is a standard practice in the afl these days but execution is critical.

Noddy - some people don't "forget" that. Some people - like me - like to think that that side - with stars in every line and multiple AA players and 4 genuine out and out champions (Pav, 211, Elvis & Fyfe) - stacks up talent-wise pretty well against pretty much any side going around. As they showed that season. Just Like Lyon's best St Kilda side.

I am so sick of the cultural cringe displayed by docker supporters who insist that the only way the club could have achieved any success is through the divine intervention of their demi-god, Ross Lyon.

The worrying thing for me is that - despite the pervasive myths to the contrary - Lyon has never had success with anything other than a stellar list. So he will be breaking new ground with us and our current list if he does so.

I fervently hope he does, I merely point out that there is no basis from past performance upon which to assume this to be the case.

If success is winning a GF he's never had that. If finishing top of the table or getting into a GF is success he's done that without a stellar team. Mayne, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Dawson to name a few are average AFL players at best.

Come on Noddy. You can go through any grand final team and find players who never did much else or were in the right place at the right time.
Can't imagine too many other sides clamouring to get Roughead, Roberts, Cordy or Dunkley from WB.
Ellis, Rosa, Cripps, Hutchings, Sheed played in the slime GF side. I reckon they would have then or now be lucky to get a game for us.
I do agree about those players averageness though, so it's disappointing that a number of them are still getting a game.
