That was meant to be sarcastic.. We gave up pick 3 to get McCarthy and he just kicked 6 goals.. SPS is classy but I told you so after 11 touches is a bit rich.. Sure Logue looked ordinary in his first game but it is early days

Sure, too early to comment on SPS but McCarthy is a jet for a few goals in a pre-season game vs the likely bottom side who traveled half way across the country.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Sps looks good , he reminds me of a Cyril Rioli all class.

Getting Logue and McCarthy was a great pick up , two key position players for the price of one.

Logue is gonna be an absolute star and Cam Mac sacrificed a year out of footy to get to us, the least we can do is be happy with what we got.

He looked good , but has a way to go , I would have been happy to see him in Freo colours but you can't take them all , he more or less indicated he wanted to play in Melbourne , Griffen Logue was very pleased to stay in WA , Both players got their wish , Let's just move on

It's about four years too early.

Do we say from now on that Biz watches with "SPS glasses" or "I told you so glasses"?

Forget Logue and SPS, we have always needed goal kickers. Ainsworth was the one that got away, but if McCarthy kicks a heap for us none of this matters.

Because yep lets draft a kid who is on the record as saying he wanted to play footy in melbourne.

Or how many years did the fan base cry out for the recruiters to pick a KPP with their first pick, which this year we pick the best rated defender (who can spend time on the ball) which fills a need. But when we actually do the same people cry out that we didn't pick another medium sized midfielder...

S Hill was getting tags in his first season, a first year player getting tagged! Because that's how damaging he is with the ball. Read the stats on S. Hill and the number of times he got over 25 possesions and freo won.. just shows teams couldn't let him roam free.

There's a fair bit of BS coming from some of you and Timmeh has come up with the largest. I'll try and address some of those issues.

I. Where a draftee suggests he'd like to play doesn't mean a thing. Do you think Mundy was requesting to move across the country? Pav? It's a stupid thing to say 'this kid didn't openly request to come to our footy club so stuff him'. SPS would have loved being one of us.
II. It's been said a million times over the past year but when we needed KPP's previously we didn't get them. Now we're rebuilding we decide to stretch and go reaching into the draft for a KPP (not even a forward at that and in a weak KPP draft) with too high a pick. It's not a good draft strategy and shouldn't be commended.
III. Logue looks good and I'm sure he'll be a very good player for us but he's not in the same ball park as SPS (and hasn't shown any evidence of being a mid for that matter).
IV. Calling SPS 'another medium-sized mid' isn't accurate. He is far removed from the Sheridan's and Crozier's we took with early picks and populate our list. He is a genuine star in the making.
V. S Hill wasn't tagged in his first season and struggled to cope with a tag for a long time. Regardless it's still a worthless observation that bares no relation to SPS so I'm not sure why mention him. They are very different players.

I hope that helps resolve some of Timmeh's concerns. Morgan I'm sure you know comparing SPS output to 3 players is not a fair comparison but I'm pretty confident SPS would go close. Setting aside SPS vs Logue, there would be 2 other players in the 22 who'd come in for McCarthy and Darcy who'd likely be comparable or better with McCarthy almost certain of getting here without the need to be included in that trade deal. I also believe SPS input or really any star midfielder is a more valuable contribution than a KPD. A lot of KPD's are lower draft picks and have a pretty simple and set role where as star mids are able to do far more damage and impact games better. Your backing of Dawson's role in the the side is pretty damning evidence of that.

Ok Yoss, fair enough if you're happy ignoring the mistakes of the people running our club. I'd much rather bring attention to them and make sure it's fixed or done right the next time.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

After the eagles were gifted a state side, it was never gunna happen for Freo that way (see post on they finally said it) We can't take them all, and sure it would be good to get SPS. However we have done well in our picks this year, and to label SPS a superstar in the making at this stage could see him go down the track of many other 1 game superstars. Bizkit has some very firm opinions, and the validity of those opinions won't be revealed for a season or two. To lambast the likes of Timmeh for their equally strong opinions is a brave move in this world of digital recall.

Hi Biz,

Glad I could be of service to dish up a bit of bs to have a discussion over.

I. So here he is on the record as saying "I told them I'd be more than happy to go to Freo. I'd appreciate any opportunity, but I'd love to be drafted by a Melbourne club," he says.
and the full article www.afl.com.au/news/2016-11-08/going-pla...ere-he-wants-to-play

I'm pretty sure Jack Watts is on record as saying he didn't want to leave Melbourne, and with West Coast at 2 (nicnat) and Freo at 3 (S Hill) if he didn't go at 1 then there was a high chance he was heading interstate, brisbane had pick 7 (rich) so slim pickings that year for him to land at a vic club. Pretty sure Chad Wingard said to GWS as well that after his contract finished he would look to shift back to SA, so they didn't pick him. When you see what happened at Brisbane and the number of Victorian Kids who left GWS to move back to Victoria, whilst I understand he is a local lad, if someone says they really want to go somewhere, do you really want to invest a couple years of development and then potentially not get the returns back? GWS hasn't really had a choice, they have to cut their salaray cap back and trim their list as well, so there are a few they had to get rid of.. If SPS changes his mind in a few years time and decides he wants to come back to WA, I'm sure Freo would be happy to snap him up, as would the majority of us.

II The question to ask is if we kept pick 3, how would we have got Cam Mac to Freo, and with pick 3 there was still no guarantee we would have taken SPS either. Tarranto was a bit of a late bolter into the top 3 considerations. There was still every chance that SPS could have still been there at our pick 7. I don't know what other options we had to get him here, without severally smashing ourselves with no other draft picks, considering we were trying to get Mayne, Hamling and Kersten as well. The picks from that pick 3 trade gave us something to work with for the rest of the trade period.

III Logue won the beep test at the combine, so with an engine like that and an ability to compete, there is nothing stopping him from spending stints in the midfield as he develops.

IV Calling SPS a medium size midfielder.. what else do you describe a 180cm midfielder? Not quite big bodied midfielder? Slightly bigger than small mid?? Fyfe and Mundy at 190+cm are big mids and lachie neale at under 180cm is a small mid, I don't know how else to describe them?

V People were talking about Hill so I made a comment about hill.

Jacob Weitering must be a freak then to be a KPD and go at Pick 1. That pick #4 pavlich guy was an AA Full Back in his 2nd year, albeit first recruited as a forward. Alex Rance was Pick 18. Phil Davis Pick 10, Michael Hurley - Pick 5, Harry Taylor Pick 17, Tom Lonergan Pick 23, Daniel Talia - Pick 13 (2012 Rising Star)
