True Snail, but what we get from Dawson and Pearce is not acceptable and according to people here we have to keep them and get rid of others because they have a contract.
So basically we have to accept mediocrity or worse and get rid of players who perform because the better ones don't have a contract and the lesser ones do.
Is that just not just poor work by the list managers?

Agarn i believe the problem is that if you break a contract as a club you still have to pay out that contract and it still appears on your salary cap , So to re contract Scos and delist Dawson would mean both salaries fall into 2017 caps . Someone correct me if i am wrong , As i have limited knowledge in these matters

Personally, I would've kept Silvagni (no need to keep referencing Stephen anymore surely) and played him in close to first choice for the backline next year. But next year's not really the point, it's more on where they'll be in 2-3 years that they made the call on I'd say. Silvagni has been injury prone and even as a depth player has often missed his chance to fill in because of injury in the past few years.

The contracted status issue is definitely a big factor, as it's not really great idea signing someone up for a new contract and axing someone contracted who's money you're then likely having to absorb in your cap space. Especially when you are probably going to need a bit of a war-chest available for Fyfe. Come to think of it, on that score first and second-year players are very handy for some frugality value in your cap.

Agarn, one mitigating factor bout Dawson's signing the latest contract, was that it came not long after he'd won the club's award for finals player of the year.

They were like for like Snail in that they are mid for mid, forward for forward and of similar or less ability. Barlow has had a multitude of better games than any Hill has ever played and without injury could have won a brownlow by now. It's not fair to compare anyone to the great man Pav who even in the season just gone where we couldn't get the ball forward was amongst our absolute best as shown in the Doig. Chopper is a much better player than Kersten who is yet to do anything of note where as Chopper has been on the cusp of AA selection before. Even SCOS has proven just as good as Hamling blanketing many more opponents and in much more trying circumstances.

It's a pretty fair assessment to say they are like for like at best.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Really? And in 2018 and beyond? (oh and they didn't really have much say on Mayne, he was a bird that had already flown the coop, unless you propose they matched Collingwood's offer to try and convince him to stay)

2018/19 is when I expected the high pick draftees to come on and push them aside if not earlier. Unfortunately we won't have many of them.

Care to name them? (the ones who could replace them and we would've had a realistic chance of having them available to us)

I have many times. Most likely we miss SPS with our first pick and one of SPP, Logue, Bolton, Battle, Berry or similar with our second.

And none of those have yet played a game better than Hill, Hamling, or Kersten. They may do, but as you say Barlow Might have won a Brownlow. He Didn't.

Talk of Barlow almost winning a Brownlow is a bit over the top.
In 2010 when he broke his leg, he polled 12 votes from 14 games.
Judd won it with 30.
If he had not missed the last 8 games, he may have finished top ten, but he was never going to win it, or come anywhere near the first 3.

You're right he didn't win it but the point was he played well enough to consistently earn 3 votes for an extended period over his career as a very strong contributor in the middle. His ability there and impact was very high and much more than B Hill has ever shown, even at a younger age. Saying B Hill isn't an improvement on Barlow isn't an outrageous statement.

Flashy players win the Brownlow, Barlow is more of a MVP type.
