TOPIC: Bye SCOS

That's all very well Spud but that argument doesn't really hold water when you've still got a 32 year old Dawson and a 31 year old Pearce on our list.

I salute the scos, we as freo supporters all ways value player on our lists if they give effort, just seem like other clubs don't. That being that it would bring a tear to my eye to see scos or matty go up to the stage on grand final day, they unlike other players would shake the kids hand and give a genuine smile, gentleman both. It would also make me smile

It seems to me that the players delisted are the players who lack pace. We could argue forever on the merits of Dawson but one thing he is not is slow, a few years ago I think I am correct in saying he was one of if not the fastest at the club over 20 metres.
I don't like seeing our players leave particularly the ones that have extracted the best out of themselves through effort. I am interested to hear what players should have been deleted if not these ones, baring in mind that some have contracts in place? I have been critical, of D Pearce and Sheridan on here before but I think Sheridan is contracted, and D Pearce he does do a role with his long kicking and gains metres and probably isn't getting paid much.

That's the logic you're going to explain SCOS not being any good, that no other club poached him so he's rubbish? He's a player who could mark, body, jump, had pace, decent skills, made good decisions, has awareness, football smarts, courage and plenty of loyalty but yeah sure, he's no good.

I'm the only one rebuilding despite our coach and CEO running around telling everyone that's exactly what we're doing and why we were so rubbish this season and need to delist everyone on the list?!

The idea behind a rebuild is bringing in talent, the chances of that with pick 90 in the draft are incredibly low so you keep the good mature age players with a few good years left to teach and develop the kids. That way you don't have to play them all when they're skinny 18yo's getting beaten up for 22 rounds as solid blokes can look after them like Soloman, McPhee and co back in 2008-10. Sacrificing the decent picks at quality draftees for more average middle aged players is not how you rebuild.

Opening up a dozen spots on the list to fill in a single draft is just going to bring in a bunch of middle of the road kids that are more likely to never make it rather than be elite and push a premiership, you end up like a Richmond. Rebuild's happen over 2 or 3 seasons for that reason, unless you have concessions like GWS/GC you aren't going to have the picks high enough to get enough quality talent in such a short period of time. We only have the one shot at a genuine star in the draft this year (opposed to better sides having several high picks to bring in star talent) a long with a bunch of late speculative picks but our side is the one everyone expects to jump up and challenge again. I know everyone wants to wear their purple tinted glasses when looking at this sort of thing but sometimes you need to take a look at what other clubs are doing and their lists in comparison and after a 4 win season I doubt the additions we've made worry any other side.

My hope is Bennell has miraculously broken free of his calves and is able to show what he can do but even that won't carry us near a premiership. Replacing Pav, Mayne, Barlow, SCOS and all the others we've lost with McCarthy, Kersten, B Hill and Hamling is at best like for like, not any improvement which is a worry when we only managed 4 wins.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Draft pick 7 would have equated to about 6 more wins for the season rather than tanking to ensure pick 3.
There were a few games last year where our performances were substandard and we as members had to accept the tank commanders master plan of going for a rebuild to gain valuable draft picks.
What springs to mind are the defeats to sides like Collingwood and Gold Coast but this spawned that totally unacceptable loss to Sydney at home for Pav's game 350.
Ok so there's no romance in footy, but were totally taken for granted last season.

Is it not a tad ironic that you keep citing Solomon as a textbook element of a rebuild Bizkit, when his recruitment was pretty much placating Tarrant, whose procession into the club virtually put the kibosh on any chance of us contending in 2007 and as it turned out the immediate years thereafter?

I don't agree with that being the reason Solly was recruited but his efforts in a rebuilding side are something to be emulated. It was a role well suited to him and the likes of Dutchy, Barlow and SCOS who could have an impact doing the same.

I would put a question to all , How many out there would have had Scos in our best 22 next year if he had been retained?I for one hope he get's to a club where he can play seniors every week , Instead of being a depth player for us .Also let's face it Biz even though 13 have gone off the list only 3 would have been considered best 22 Pav , Mayne and Mickey were the only ones that played regularly in the ones . And only one of those three is in the superstar category . I for one will not make too many comments criticising the list management until the final list is announced.

On form at the end of the year and into the WAFL finals I'd play SCOS before Dawson and Collins. Of course Roly wouldn't see it like that and the love child is a walk up starter.
I would also be extremely surprised if Johnson can return to his best form or see out anywhere near a full season.

Uberbang is another key back so it seems we have many a option down back. I think Scos went for list balance

Given Uebergang kicked 8 goals from his 12 games in the WAFL this year I think it's fair to say he's a swing man rather than a defender. Would be interested to know how many games he played forward for this 8 goals maybe he is also pushing for the 2nd tall forward position with kersten & Tabs.

Edit: to answer 353's question, my starting back 6 would have been:
B: Spurr, SCOS, A Peace
HB: Ibbo, MJ, Crozier,
With Hamling getting a run when any of the starting 3 KPs are injured/ rested. every one of these 7 can mark, kick & handball.

Dawson had a contract Scos didn't very simple , If Dawson was uncontract may have been different , Also Scos seemed to get injured a lot so that may have swayed their decision

Nyhuis played a good game in the back 6 for Peel in the GF, a good option to hold down the oppositions small forward. He will put Spurr under pressure to hold his spot. I didn't see him kick bit that doesn't seem to bother RoLy.

I was always taught to embrace change..it leads to new paths, strategies and goals. I know that SCOS Barlow, and the others delisted wont be feeling the glow of change but it is essential if we are to improve as a team. Bizkit , I dont know how you could possibly think that Barlow for Hill is like for like....or Kersten and McCarthy is like for like for Pav and Mayne............you cant stand still and hanker for the go ole team when that team was an abject failure. Add Hamling in for the retired Luke and/or injured SCOS and you see what I mean................YOUTH is the change...not necessarily pace but young heads with young bodies and impressive credentials. If we keep thinking that what we had was acceptable we are all in a lot of hot water!
