Has always been one of my favourite players, hard working, tough and reliable. He deserves a chance at another club but unfortunately age is not on his side. Good luck Alex with wherever life takes you.

Thank you very much for the loyalty you have shown to our club Alex. Everytime you took to the field you displayed a hardness and endeavor that did not go unnoticed. I've never met you, but it's clear by the way you carry yourself and the way in which you've contributed your time towards charities, that you're an Honourable person. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

I met Alex once at a post-game function at the Lexus Centre after a typical night loss at the MCG a few years back (2010 I think). It was a cold night and it was his first game back from a spell out with injury. My hands were so cold that when I went into the function room I went straight to the pie warmer - my hands were frozen, but the pie was good and warm. I started talking to one of the suits there while I was eating my pie - he looked more than a bit anxious, that kind of buzzed out on caffeine pills look. Couldn't make hide nor tail what the guy was talking about and my pie did a kind of exit out of the bottom end of the pastry and laid a big brown splodger right down the white anchor of my jumper I had on under my coat. My football buddy tried to wipe it off with a napkin, but that just made it worse.
Then they wheeled in the players - about 6 of them - and they sat looking bruised/dejected behind a table at the other end of the room. No one really wanted to talk with them - at the far end of the table was Alex. They were all holding marker pens for autographs (or something) - Pav had a line-up of waiting supporters, but I wanted to say howdy to SCOS. So I wandered over for a chat.
We talked, I said it was really good to see him back, etc. His head seemed really big to me, but I didn't say so - instead, I said he reminded me of a husky - he laughed. What I like about him was that he looked you straight in the eye, almost without blinking. But when I talked I noticed that he would start lowering his gaze down my jumper to the brown splodger on the anchor - then rapidly upwards if I asked a question. He kept looking at it, then said 'You want an signature near that shit mark on your jumper mate?' I said 'Nope, bumped into Demetriou and he gave me that signature' - he laughed and laughed and had to tell Van Berlo (next to him) the joke.
Good bloke, great sense of humour.

Will always remember Silvagni for the most unselfish act I've ever seen on a football field in that Derby going back a couple years.

Still can't believe he got 4 weeks for it.

You're very wrong Jezza, there's little to nothing similar about this 'rebuild' compared to what happened in 2008. I've outlined why that's the case on other threads but I'm happy to do so again if needed. In any case the only thing close to outrage on dockerland at anyone leaving back then was about Wiz not getting a farewell which none of our delistings have received.

You're poor judgement of SCOS is far from the mark Spud, he has shown plenty as a footballer and proven himself to be a fantastic player. I still remember 2010 when he jumped into the side and demolished the likes of Johnno Brown and many other big KPF's. Harvs even trusted him in the ruck which he competed incredibly well in and was almost another Fyfe/Barlow/Mundy sized midfielder once it hit the ground. Unfortunately a combination of the selection committee and injury prevented him from getting a regular gig but he should get the chance to go again elsewhere next year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I dont think you can say with certainty that right now, A Pearce, Hamling, Fist, Ibbo or Collins are better than Sylvagni.
So why not let him go round again, to make sure at least two of them are in fact, better footballers?

Surely we dont need 8 more players when we only have two more high draft picks.
6 or 7 would have been more than enough to find any "hidden gems".

Scos has basically sacrificed his whole career, apparently happily so, to play second fiddle and back up to McPharlin and Johhno and co. I really feel sorry for him, not in a financial sense but he could have been playing as a first up defender in a dozen other teams. I never wanted him to go but I always wondered why he didnt.

Hopefully he plays now for at least 3 straight years and really shows that he is a good defender. Good luck Scos, never once saw him shirk a contest, never once.

If you can get past the shallow differences like how the players got onto the list and instead see it as a targeted needs based refit, where some specific gaps on the list are scaffolded with some early twenties players, while they keep a strong presence in the draft to pick the “best available”, then you can see the similarities. In 2008 the biggest need was in the midfield, this time around KPP’s are more of a focus.

Silvagni will be missed for lots of reasons, not least of all for the depth. He was much better than being just a depth player though. I guess they may look to some younger readymades in the pre-season draft (Marsh?), or perhaps they're backing their medical and conditioning guys to keep everyone on the park......

Unless you are an elite talent, you need a ton of hard work, a great attitude and a little good luck to have a long career. SCOS seemed like a great guy and always seemed to give his best, but unfortunately for the prime of his career he had two All-Australian calibre tall defenders ahead of him on the list.

Thanks for everything SCOS.

Bizkit, if the guy was anything above ordinary he would have been taken from us years ago. I know, he's loyal, heart and soul and all that touchy feely stuff. He won't likely be in our best 22, so he has to go.

Your rebuild of 17 year olds mixed with 28 year olds looks more bizarre every time someone gets delisted. And you keep telling everyone on here only you know what a rebuild is (even though your the only one rebuilding).

If you want to be all pissed off about where we're headed, that's fine, but hopefully more people can see a future that doesn't have to involve old players who don't have the skill for the modern game.

Bring on the new season.
