The missus was adamant I farted in bed last night, but I reassured her it was just a phantom draft.

The variability in some versions of phantom drafts has a fair bit to do with the evenness of this draft across a wide range of players. It'd also be down to some of the late info they'd be getting from club recruiters, rather than a shift in how they rate the player per se.

The primary reason we shifted from 3 to 7 was to secure McCarthy, a KPP, while this is a draft full of midfielders at the pointy end. I not sure they'd have one definitive player in mind for that pick, but rather they'd think the spread of talent would assure them that, quality wise, there'd be not much between what's available at 3 vs what's available at 7.

With the AFL doing their very best to legislate ruckmen out of the game, why wouldn't you take English early? He's a 200cm version of David Mundy.

Fair to say Lloyd and his crew will pick the best available at Pick 7. I would have thought then that English wouldn't be in their thinking at No 7. Standby for another midfielder to don the purple after tomorrow's draft. I'm still sticking with Logue. At 194cm and 92Kg, he's a ready made replacement for either MJ or Zac the Spack. They are liquid gold these KPP. Furthermore, we've recruited all the mids in the last few drafts. Hope Lloydy is a fan of DL.

As the draft draws closer it seems more likely that McCluggage will slide to pick 3, which makes me ponder over the fact he could be in purple next year. I know we needed to trade pick 3 to get McCarthy and into the second round. I just hope McCarthy can prove our poor trading record wrong as I don't see McCluggage being a dud.

If McCluggage slides to 3, someone gets a bargain. Watched him live at the all stars game and he was a class above.

Just on Logue, I mentioned a month or so ago when commenting on him that he was short for a KPD and probably wasn't quite there at AFL level and had been working more on his rebound out of defence. At the AFL draft combine he measured at 191cm (same size as many of our mids) meaning he's not going to be someone who plays on the opposition's best KPF's who are up around the 196-200cm region. That's not the bloke you want at pick 7. I'd still grab him in a heartbeat if our pick were in the teens but at 7 it's a massive reach and we can do better..
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

It seems to me that if Essendon don't nominate Setterfield with their first pick (and thus force the hand of GWS) the draft is not real. Similarly, surely Brisbane will nominate Bowes with their pick 3, unless there is some under the table agreement going on?

Jy Simpkin is a perfect pick for us he comes from a severe broken leg.....has to be a priority

If Logue was to turn out like Josh Gibson at hawthorn, who is just shy of 190cm, then I would be reasonably happy with him rebounding off our back line and taking him at pick 7. He might even grow a cm or 2 still yet.

Except you'd be giving up Hodge to get a Gibson.
