TOPIC: Tim English

We're in a hurry to win premierships. Sides like Hawks, Sydney, Cats and to some extent Bulldogs, don't draft ruckman. Roughead for the Dogs is a part time ruckman. Tippett is a KPP. Smith who plays for the cats now, was traded from the Suns. So is McKevoy for Hawks who used to play for the Saints. Why waste the resources when you can pick them up after someone else have developed them. Lobb will come back home, put your house on it. We drafted Apeness as a Ruck/Fwd. now that we've got MCCarthy, Kersten, Tabener, Apeness's role changes, I reckon. English will be surplus to requirements. Our ruck division in Sandi, Clarke, Griffin, Apeness have got 2-3 years in them. Sandi will play on beyond 2017, barring a significant injury.

Your 4 ruckmen all have a history of being injured for long periods, Jez.
Why are so many convinced that Tim English can't ruck, when they haven't seen him play, or maybe seen him once or twice? He's only been a ruckman for a year, he was probably going to get drafted as a midfielder before he grew so much.
He has the skills and he's tall, why wouldn't you snaffle him now? Plus, I'm pretty sure he was the outstanding ruckman in the under 18's.
One team wins with a couple of makeshift ruckmen, and it's the way to go for everyone?
Might as well delist Sandilands - doesn't fit the current trend.

Sorry Biz, but it was not a "hit the wrong button". I just HAVE to agree with you on that one.

I've only seen bits and pieces of him at colts level Yoss but I did see all the U18 carnival games and All Star match and he did nothing of note in any of them. I can barely remember a tap to advantage let alone a mark in a dangerous position or any kind of contest really. I think there might of been one close to contested when a teammate shepherded the opposition away while he was in the defensive hole but his movement to get to those positions doesn't look natural either.

What he seems to do well is handball and kick very nicely for a ruckman but that's not the priority in ruck talent. If he did those things while also taking marks (contested more so), winning taps to advantage, showing some sort of body work in both marking and ruck contests, moving to the right positions of the ground to best stop the opposition's ball movement or attract his own team's kicks (something Sandi does incredibly well) or anything related to being a ruckman I'd say he's worth a first rounder for sure (although still probably not at 7).

He's a year older than everyone else in the draft and while he has good disposal and is decent down low for a ruckman, I don't think that makes him top 10 worthy. I actually don't think he's the best ruckman available in the draft but can understand the thinking behind those pushing him as a top pick. I just don't agree with it.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I'm convinced, Biz.
Powell-Pepper should be our man then.
Although, if anyone should take English, its Glen Jakovich.

I like Powell-Pepper but I think there are others a bit better and well rounded like Ainsworth and Taranto who may be there at that point (assuming SPS has gone). Powell-Pepper is around the 10-15 mark for mine and hopefully coming back to WA in a few years.

Hey Yoss, what about his mates Barra and Hack, they could get a bulk discount for their 5 year program.

Powell-Pepper is a Slime supporter. Our interest in him should be zero.

No, No and No for Powell Pepper.
Last thing we need is a poor disposal player in the team who is in love with the weagirls.
Not even if he is there for the second pick!

Happened to pass Sam P-S in town today. Wished him luck at the draft, but told him I'd like to see him in Freo colours next year. His response was telling. I think he thought the prospect funny or unlikely or both. Either that or he thought it amusing that some random beard on the street knew who he was. English it is reckons.
