Easily worth 2 more years, how can they not even offer him something? He provides depth and grunt when we're throwing most of it away. He can play football too. A prerequisite too often overlooked.

There might not be room for romance in footy, but there's all the space in the world for frickin idiots.

Agreed it's very, very sad to see a favourite player go, but let's also acknowledge that it was Barlow who quit - he wasn't dumped. He said so in the Twitter thing.
I think he's probably already lined up a new club (my bet is he's moving to Adelaide), but let's all wish him good luck and thanks for the memories. He's certain to get a good reception at Subi next year, whatever colours he's wearing.

Thanks for the memories Mickey B. You were and are a great player, a real natural.
I'll also say this about Michael Barlow. When he wasn't playing and was in his suit, I saw him outside having his photo taken with a few fans who stopped to say hello on a game day. He took the time to have another photo with me and I keep that photo on a magnet in my office.

I hear the disgruntled voices but in all seriousness that shoulder injury he copped in Rd 17 was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. As a rookie listed player he was a sensational pick up by the club. 7 years down the track, he's not the player that you could have in your best 22, despite what some might say.

He's hardly a Sam Mitchell or a Jordan Lewis type player and I say this with the utmost respect for Mick. I just think, he has given his very best for Freo and perhaps his very best is good enough for other clubs but not in purple.

Thanks Mickey B, hope you find an AFL club in 2017.

Interesting to note what was mentioned on his tweet, that he knew 30 minutes after round 17 that this year will be his last as a Docker...call me naive, but I'd like to think that the club has delisted him to maximize his opportunity to have regular game time at an AFL club where he deserves to be, rather than wallowing in Peel...

Even so, I'm absolutely gutted about the news...will always remember meeting you at the airport in Melbourne after beating Carlton in 2013, you were more than happy to have a picture taken with my wife and were an absolute gentleman about it. Good luck for your future endeavors, I sincerely hope that you absolutely kick ass at your next club...

I think he would have still had value for us. A 2 year contract would have been a good thing.

He was a great clubman and gave his all, a courageous player. Me and Mrs Quasi will miss him and elder Miss Quasi will have to find a new player crush.

rogerrocks, I'm not sure there is a coach in the league flexible enough to have Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Blakely and Barlow all in the same midfield. This absolutely sucks, but Mick is too good a player to be running around at Peel.

Thanks for everything Micky B, and best of luck at your new club. And when you do retire, can you please go into the media? There are any number of former players boofheading it up in commentary boxes, but very few with your natural wit and charm.

I don't think Mick quit:

The Fremantle Dockers on Monday confirmed a further change to the club’s playing list.

Michael Barlow has been advised that his contract would not be extended into 2017.

You'd think the Gold Coast or Adelaide would pick him up, let's hope so.

By "quit" I mean, and sincerely hope, that he left on his own terms, not with a foot up his arse.

As good as he was/is, and as much as we all love him, he is old and slow and now has a bung shoulder. There are other players that are a lot younger and every bit as good or better (Neale, Blakely etc) That's footy, that's sport, thats life. It sucks but it is what it is.

Thank you for your commitment to the club and the way you went about your business on the football field Mick. I was at the game when you broke your leg, and you displayed no fuss - fitting really, as you were/are a no fuss, honest footballer with incredible talent. Best of luck in your future.

and in typical Barlow fashion didn't whinge about not being given a year, just sounded thankful for what he was given. Thanks Micky B - hope you get another Club so I can give you a big cheer.

In Pav's book the great man talks about his first kick to kick session with Micky B. The new guy was spraying kicks everywhere and Pav thought the recruiters had made some big mistake. As many remember, in his first game Micky got 20+ touches and 2 goals. The skipper became a fan from then on.

Thanks for everything you've brought to Freo. Everyone at Splash 2 House hopes you do well in your next chapter- whether it's on the field or off. If you play again at Subi you deserve an ovation of Crowley proportions.

The fact that he knew he was out straight after injuring his shoulder surely means that he'd been told earlier in the season that he was very unlikely to be here in 2017.
Sooooo disappointed right now. Would love him to have been a life member-he deserved it.

Won't be the same without you Mick.
