I appreciate D&D that this helps with the player wanting to go there but doesn't assist them in being able to put a deal together that will satisfy Gold Coast and Sydney. Reports have claimed that Lobb has expressed an interest in coming home. If these reports are true I for the life of me can't see how Hawthorn can get their deals done and we can't get ours done.
To my thinking OMeara is going to command at absolute minimum a high top ten pick,
Mitchell a first rounder a 2nd round pick would be a bargain.
If these players go for much less than this then something is amiss, but if we don't rush the week may help to reset GWS's expectations of what Lobb is worth.
My point is if Hawthorn think they can get these two players with their first pick being 14 surely we are in a prime position to get Lobb.

Docker by the sea. The three players linked with the Hawks are all out of contract. One of which has nominated the Hawks as his preferred destination. There is a massive difference in the situation with Lobb and Hogan. These 2 players are contracted for another year. Our best hope is to pry one of them away with an offer there team can't refuse and wait a year on the other. If we have a half decent year next year with any luck that other player nominates Freo as his preferred destination.

I know he would only be a small fish but would Harrison Marsh be worth trying to add as a depth player given his axing by Sydney on GF eve if he wanted to come home. A good solid defender got delisted end of last year and now on rookie list, still only 23yo next year, plus a Freo boy.
He's the sort of player that the top teams like Hawthorn recruit to bolster their list of mature age players.

Good point Gumnut didn't realise they were both out of contract. Still I think this has to be a tough ask for the Hawks to pull off given we are talking 2 high quality players as opposed to our one.

Raglan Matt, I too don't quite understand how Buddy and Tippett fit under their salary cap. I understand that Buddy is on a 10 year contract with payments getting bigger over time. So maybe there is room for him now. But I'm betting that if for some reason his career were to end next year, that the AFL would magically allow any payments Sydney was contractually obliged to make to him to be outside the salary cap.
I also imagine Sydney's thinking to be, "The salary cap is going to keep growing pretty quickly, so what looks like a ridiculous deal now will be fine". And again, if they get that equation wrong, watch the AFL bail them out.
If Freo made that sort of audacious deal and it fell apart, we'd be on our own.
