TOPIC: Delisting announcement - timing?

If memory serves. We got Tucker with 22. We then traded this year's 2nd round for GC 2nd round last year (mid 30s). We picked Balic with that second round pick. That trade cost us pick 21 this year.

We should get a bunch of second rounderset if we trade smartly.

It is hard to follow because the numbers change on draft day with the bidding system, but I don't completely make sense of it.

I'll go with draft guru.

20 plus 38 from Fremantle for H.Bennell plus 27. Then later 56 plus 2016 Future pick Round 2 to
Gold Coast for picks for 35 and 61 to Fremantle. (On draft day our picks were 27, 38, 55 and 61).

www.draftguru.com.au/years/2015 Handy historical reference site nevertheless.

Edit: So 20 was 16, 27 was 22, and I'm not sure about the difference between giving up 38 and getting 35 back later in the second part of the trade, but it seems to be much the same pick)

Thanks guys, although Im not sure I'm any wiser. If we convert players for draft picks we got Bennell, Tucker, Balic & Collins for pick 20, 52 and pick 21 (2016).

This could be seen as a great trade in a couple of years.

I think when we traded our first rounder for the deal to get Harley Bennell it was pick 16, but then on draft day it became pick 20. Starting with Callum Mills at pick 3 who Melbourne nomitated then Sydney matched using their picks 33,36,37 and 43 to move the order down. So Melbourne pick 3, becomes pick 4 and so on. I think there's a few of these pushing back that pick 16 to 20.

Here's the provision 2015 draft order before the bidding if you want to unravel it more:

We traded this year's second rounder for last year's second rounder in the hope of using it in a deal for McCarthy.

With Blakely and Langdon as permanents in the Freo side next year.Where does Brad Hill play and how do Freo pay the Hawks for Brad.A triple premiership player will not be cheap for Freo..

The trick is to look at what the club's we are talking to need.
In the case of GWS, they really need pick 3 - not for anything now but to use it, along with 7, 14and 15 to inject a big part of their future 5 - 10 years down the track into their team now.
There's only one thing frightens GWS, and it's Brisbane, who've shown that a 3 premiership run in a hostile environment don't mean nothing once it's over.
Hawthorn need decent picks, second round picks, because they're heading for a cliff and they know it.
I think we can get Lobb, McArthy and Hill for pick 3 (Hawks getting GWS's pick 32).

Taking either Lobb or Hogan, and making them the focus of our scoring goes against thetrend of the more successful clubs of the recent past. None of them have a dominant forward. All have multiple scoring options and use whichever is available play by play. Demons with Hogan, Eagles with Kennedy, Saints and 9thmond with Rewoldts. All still looking for success. Go with what is cost effective, Kersten, MacCarthy and the like. We have a midfield, play Fyfe across half forward permanently and give us a target for the pressure kicks from half back.

A forward line of Apeness, McCarthy, Yarran, Walters, Lobb, Bolton/Ryan would have few avenues about it.

Add in a few years of development to English or Strnadica and it looks even better.

Cant we trade Bondy for a pair of worn out shorts? We need to book end the departures of Pav and Luke.....our mids look great in Fyfe, Neale, Bennell, Blakely.......and our half back/half forwards look solid with Weller, Hill, Hill, Langdon, A Pearce , Yarran, Walters, Mundy and Spurr. Rucks are over rated....just ask Hawthorne, Bulldogs and Sydney.

Snail I agree with you ruck men are over rated and those teams don't have star rucks. What they do have is a strong ruck forward.
At Hawthorn Hale was an extremely under rated part of their successful premiership teams. At Sydney they spent big, to get Tippett and can still fit Buddy and him in the Salary Cap. At the Bullies they have Roughhead who is competent forward and Tom Boyd seems to be getting better each week now he is spending time in the Ruck.
I also agree it is unlikely that we will get Lobb but does not change the fact that he is exactly what we need. If we just throw our hands in the air and say well we are no chance than it has got bad. If this was how Sydney thought then they would never have got Buddy.
I remember when the Buddy deal got done thinking it would stuff Sydney, well I was wrong. Maybe we should be trying to throw the sink at some of their football dept staff that can achieve these deals.
I don't subscribe very much to the talent identification thing when it comes to recruiting, but more development and culture once they arrive. Everybody knows who the really promising kids are, but some clubs seem to be able to continuously pick up better players lower in the draft. Trent Croad was a much better player when playing at Hawthorn.

Great post DBS. A positive culture and ambition are so crucial and seem to be 2 areas we've lost over the last 3 years.

You can spend all the money in the world on the best players but if there is no cultural bond then performance will be lacking.

If we build it, they will come.

Jamaican bobsled team style!

DBTS, some of us are wondering whether the Swans have fitted Tippet and Buddy under the table rather than under the salary cap.
