That was my point. It was in the context of a strategy of chasing midtier players.

I think Kersten may be a bit of a spud, but he certainly can kick the football. Getting the damn thing may be an issue for him though.
I'm thinking kitchen sink - Hogan.

Kersten has played 3 years of AFL. This season he played 17 games in a team that came 3rd kicking 22 goals. Between Apeness, Taberner, Mcarthy and Kersten I think we would have some options. If we got Lobb or Hogan we would be in good shape.

What would the sink be? I would say there has been some talk already with the Dees. Something along the lines of pick 3, Barlow and another player or pick. If they knock it back wait a year for Hogan and throw pick 3 at GWS for Lobb.

Kersten is a whole lot better than Aaron Black. Another one we were lucky turned his back on us.
Part of the problem is that the first thing player managers tell their players is that a move west will shorten your career. But if the science is out on that one then hopefully Bond and co. are pointing that out to prospective recruits. Aside from that I wouldn't have thought Fremantle would be the hard sell that it seems to have become.

I seem to remember quite a few posters on this forum suggesting Kersten be drafted by us a few years back when he was at South Freo. In the meantime he's apparently turned into a spud, but nonetheless a spud who has managed to work his way into a top 4 side and kick goals this season. We could do a lot worse than trade for this guy at the right price. He is definitely a lot better than Black and dare I say it, Darling. He would provide another solid forward option.

Freo are close to a full rebuild now anyway.Hanath has to play every week next year regardless of form.Cant have Lobb and Hogan together that will take up 20% of the salary cap.Bondy got to shake the tree and see if someone falls out.The travel factor a tricky one thats why there looking at ex West Aussies.Like Hogan and Lobb.Anyone like Fyth as a permanant forward.

ROTV -Think Essendon have offered a second round trade for Darling..Trade 19 to 36 which looks reasonable for West Coast.Simpson wants Ballentine so it depends how much West Coast are prepared to pay for HB.

Other than being west Australian, I cannot see any value in trading for Kersten,
A forward line of Apeness, McCarthy, Tabs, Yarran, Walters and one of Weller/Bennell/Fyfe/Langdon being rotated through from the midfield looks ok to me.

Obviously replacing Tabs with Hogan or Apeness with Lobb would make it look a lot better, but replacing either with Kersten just doesn't make it look worth trading for.

I think we're missing the trading point here brothers.......it goes like this:
Think AFL Fantasy B team with lots of average players including the bench players ( CURRENT TEAM ) with lots of money in the bank vs
An A Grade team choc full of premium players with bugger all on the bench and a lot less in the bank...( FUTURE TEAM )
Can we trade up from B grade to A grade....of course we can , all we have to do is shoot real hard for those premium players and ignore the fringe " tryers " that everyone wants to off load.
Soooooo..trade anyone except Fyfe, Neale, Blakely, A Pearce, et all.....without a trace of sentimentality and go after the cream:
Brad Hill, Lobb, Hogan, McCarthy, et al........ignore the tryers in Kirsten, Darling and anyone from North Melbourne.
I was crap at Fantasy football this year until I realised that sentiment counts for nothing except a warm spot inside a losers jumper. I changed my ways and traded for premiums and reaped the reward!

I would have thought $700k for Lobb would be around the mark and doable if Mayne is worth $500 k over 4 years. The problem is getting the deal done with with GWS his form has got better and better and was very good in the finals.
I don't think GWS will let him go but they must be under salary cap pressure if he gets $700.
With the list of players that they are accumulating.
Cameron, Shilel, Mumford, Coniglio, Davis, Griffen, Lobb, Greene, Sculley, Shaw, Patton, Ward, Whitfield, Kelly.
Some of these may be negotiable or front end loaded, such as Griffen and maybe Shaw, but would be on good salaries at the moment I would have thought.
Who else are they willing to talk about, they have to drop $800 000 this year

I don't why we are talking about Lobb , he has about as much chance of playing for Fremantle next year as me , You know i am worried that in in a new environment Mayne may excel , I can see another gee look who you let go moment

Can anyone rell me what the Harley Bennell trade was last year. I thought this years 2ns round pick was included but this article says pick 16 and 35 for Bennell and pick 22. Who did we pick up with pick 22 last year. No mention of future picks?
