Wow glad I sparked a controversy. I can see your point Raglan and Co, why would we want a player who kicked 44 goals we have plenty of goal kickers?.....oh wait, what’s that? thats right our best goal kicker for the season kicked just 36. Seriously it was a suggestion, no need to get your panties in a twist. We all bag Darling, its a fun sport. Lobb, Hogan etc wont come cheap if at all. Ballantyne kicked just 26 and has been a shadow of himself for the past 2 years and chocked himself in 2013 if you don’t remember. A straight swap for Darling no matter your dislike for the guy would be a great trade in my opinion.

Please - we dont trade with WCE ever!
Never again - its that simple.
Their players have reputations that simply dont stack up. We dont want them.
They would want a 1st rounder for Darling so lets just let him stay there and rot.
If they want to pay us overs for Ballas - thats fine but we dont want any of their over-rated hacks!

and whoever suggested Tom Lamb - Have you seen him play?
He is seriously bad with a crap attitude and limited skills. All he has is height.
Why the Weags drafted him is beyond me

Correct Demo, when Lamb played for East Perth against Peel in the final this year his own supporters continually bagged him and the biggest cheer he got was when he was benched (which happened a number of times). Being benched when you are supposedly the spearhead of your attack is not a good sign.
The only players on the girly list that we should consider are Eric Mackenzie or Tom Barras. But they will want more than Ballas for either of them so its a round two draft pick I reckon. Would be super cool if Freo got a round two draft compensation pick for Mayne and a traded round two pick for Ballas. Our trading/selection position looks really strong if that can be achieved.

I hate to say it, but I am with you clinical.
A 29 year old small forward who has not really played that well for a couple of years, that is as hard as a cats head earnt AA 2 years ago, body may be straying to let him down. A 24 yr old 191cm forward who hasn't missed much footy is mobile and has kicked 40+ goals consistently, had a few high profile failures.
Darling holds the greater value

I hear what you're saying guys, about Tom Lamb, he was horrible against Peel but when he was first drafted he sured promising signs when he played for the Weagles but then copped an injury and has shown nothing since. I'm just wondering whether his failure to develop and his poor showings this year may be attributable to environment at East Perth whose development of AFL listed players is lamentable. They actually qualified 6 players for the WAFL reserves finals. Given that Peel seems to be providing a better environment for readying young players for the jump to AFL ranks I just thought that Lamb may benefit from a change of home.

Tom Lamb plays like he wants to go home to Melbourne and there's a good chance he'll get his wish.

I'd keep MdB. I heard a story once that Hinkley and Port keep Kane Mitchell around on the basis that it's unlikely he'll play many games, but that his effort and influence on the training track is a good for their younger guys. If we are rebuilding, then I reckon guys like MdB are good to have around - especially if there is some truth to the rumours that there has been a bit of a schism in the playing group. Also, if we do lose Mayne and Ballas, then there could be a role for MdB in the forward line. As Polly said in another post, there are shades of Picken there if we could just use him in the right way.

As for Darling, he's a mid-key forward who kicks goals and is entering his prime with something to prove. Sure, he's squibbed a contest now and again, but there's a chance he'll learn from that, and it doesn't seem to stop people from wanting B Hill. He squibbed one a beauty against West Coast this year.

Of course, the Darling trade would never happen (Ballas has very little trade value), and I'm grateful that I won't have to spend the next 6 years defending Darling on here.

I assume he'd get picked every week, mostly deliver, and that people would give him a hard time because they didn't like him. Like Zac Dawson. Then I'd feel the need to stick up for him.

Of course, I could be wrong and he could come over and be a complete spud, in which case I'd make fun of him, like Colin Sylvia.

Speaking of being wrong, just as an interesting exercise, have a guess at what percentage of a team's score you think a player kicks and then look up what it actually is. I'm really bad at it.
