What could we trade for Hogan. Pick 3, Next year's first rounder.... and some more.

A year ago he was Melbourne's great hope, but they had what was called their best win in a decade when they beat Hawthorn without Hogan in their side.

The thing that everybody seems to forget is that there is another player in the mix who GWS desperately want as they see him as notionally theirs but missed Academy qualification due, I think, to a clerical oversight. The guys name is Todd Marshal and at 198cm is widely seen as the best KKP forward in the draft. They would be willing to get Pick 3 as this could probably ensure that they get him or we could draft him speculatively and then swap him for Lobb a year down the track, Risky business, high stakes or do we just settle for SPS or Tim English. By the way Liam Ryan is super talented but not a first round pick.

Interesting that Lobb has turned out so well ... when when we drafted Apeness higher than him in the same draft. Apeness could still be anything.

If we get Mcarthy and Kersten, not sure where Hogan would fit. Where Lobb would fit right in.

Personally, I think our biggest requirement is a Roger Hayden clone who can both defend, and attack with exquisite skill from the half back line. I reckon our forwards would look a lot better not having Sutcliffe kick the ground, Stephen Hill kick when he should handpass or Danyle Pearce kick the pill over their heads.

Gumnut, Interesting that Cal Twomey has Marshall at 12 in his latest version of his Phantom draft..
He may even slide further with plenty of others getting talked up and his slight form slip later in the year.
Griffin Logue, we have talked about over the year is a big improver in this edition as is Shai Bolton.
There is at least 20 others who could go in this top 25.
For a year that was supposedly light on in talent, It will turn out to be a cracker.
We need 3 or 4 more picks inside the top 40 if we can?
Cmon Bondy!

If we still have pick 3 at the end of it - Tim English for me

If Griffin Logue is still there at our second pick we should grab him quick smart as his size and dash were impressive in the U18 Championships and would probably play seniors next season.

Demo the question I have is. If we can get Lobb for pick 3 is English better than him?
I am genuine in this question and you seem to spend more time watching talent at the lower levels than me to be a judge on this.
My concern is that young big guys take a long time to develop and there are variables between being drafted and actually playing AFL footy. To my thinking Lobb has more runs on the board and that has him be worth pick 3.
In answer to you Morgan will GWS actually be so foolish as to again ignore a players wish to come home?

DBTS - I have first hand experience with Rory and know him quite well so can vouch for his character aswell. I saw him play amateurs up close with no junior development and then saw his development at Swans.
To be honest, I didnt think he was this good although I knew he had a big upside.
His marking has gone to elite level and shows no signs of peaking yet as is his ruck work.
If I had to take a unproven pick 3 or Rory Lobb aged 23 - I would take Rory Lobb every day of the week.
He has 200 quality games left in him - maybe more with his body shape..

I rate Tim English big time too but you just cant be sure how they will adjust to AFL - You can be 100% sure with Rory

Rory Lobb's ruck work is pretty ordinary.. He is a great contested mark and has pretty good skills for his size.. I have watched him closely and in even in a game when the big Mummy went down injured and he spent a fair bit of time in the ruck he hardly got a hit out.. Ralph Dagg if you want a really good half back - Andrew McGrath is your man in this draft.

have to disagree on that one.
There not too many better ruckman in the AFL at 22-23 yrs old

I reckon he's awesome but he does only average 6.6 hit outs a game

If Marshall is such a commodity he will be a trade for Lobb, why don't we just cut to the chase and take Marshall with our pick 3. Develop him ourselves and see him play 250/300 games for Freo. No need to deal with those two-timers at GWS.

Ruck man for preliminary final teams
Sydney
Nankervis
Naismith
Tippett
Western Bulldogs
Tom Boyd
Roughhead
GWS
Mumford
Lobb
Geelong
Z Smith
Blicavs
Stanley
It would appear that dominant ruck man is not critical but makes a difference if you have somebody who can pose genuine threat when they go forward. Hence why Sydney prize Tippett and wanted Sinclair. Hale was critical to Hawks in their premierships as well was missed this year.

If our midfield gets a bit better it won't matter so much about ruck work.. Lobb is a pretty good mobile forward who can clunk it.. He got a good tank and can get around the ground and impact

Hibberd asking to be traded to Melbourne may free up a few things and get it rolling....hopefully.
