TOPIC: Rory or Jessie

That guy on Fox tonight said " whilst Melbourne were always confident of dealing with any attempt by Freo to lure Hogan, West Coast of course is a different kettle of fish".
they have been courting him for months according to Fox.
I dont get it, why would Freos offer be obviously not as attractive as the Egurls?

When it comes to Freo getting deals done since Bondy took over, its always a lottery. The Eagles would have salary cap issues, I would have thought, to entice Hogan to their club. Freo, on the other hand, might have a little more space with Pav et al leaving. In all honesty, Our priority ATM, is Cam McCarthy. I hope the club then uses its Pick 3 wisely. Pick 3 and a player for either Lobb or Hogan, would be appealing but it may not be for Melb or GWS. IMO, thats the only way I can see either Lobb or Hogan playing for Freo next year. I don't think the Eagles have got that sort of bargaining power to get either Lobb or Hogan.

I can only see the Dees being interested in McGovern at WC. So can't really see what they can offer. Pick 13 if the Lions get a priority and that'll drift after academy selections to about 16 or 17

Freo should be able to more than match $$ with WC if we lose Clarke, De Boer, Mayne, Mzungu, Pav.

Hot air from the WC mob who have shown by getting Redden, Jetta and Ellis that they are duds at the trade table

I see WC's active pursuit as a good thing for Freo's chances of getting him this year. It gives some added texture to the idea of coming home for Hogs and may make Melbourne more twitchy in the game of chicken. Maybe planting the seed that they might be better off cutting a deal and running this year with some time left on his contract if it becomes clear he wants to leave.

Freo obviously needs to sell itself as the place he'll be best off. It shouldn't be too hard for someone that is half competent, what with the prospect of Fyfe, Bennell, Walters as well as prospective KPP foils in (potentially) McCarthy, Apeness and Taberner. And he'll be the main man, rather than at WC where he'll be second fiddle to Kennedy for years, which is got to appeal to someone as competitive as him. Hopefully they hurry up and hire that rainmaker.

West coast run rings around us at the trade table. They are interested in Hogan so they come out and say so. They say they have always rated him and would definitely be interested if a deal was possible. Whereas we say nothing and all the players we are 'interested' in gets left to the rumour mill. As a result you are linked with everyone. Sometimes it pays to actually say you want someone at your club and come out and say so.
There is an argument that Hogan would not want to go the Eagles because he would be second fiddle to Kennedy. But you can flip that on its head by saying that he may want to be second fiddle for a few years while learning the trade with less pressure. And trying to sell our midfield over theirs might be hard when you point to ladder positions.
Will be interesting to see what happens if he decides to come home but recent history fills me with almost zero confidence.

Interested in the statement West Coast run rings around us at the trade table. Why do you say this Goodie?

By running rings, do you mean like headless chooks? Or do we count the masterstroke of trading out a well-performing ruckman for another outside runner whose best season was some time ago?

WC have done a fair bit of trading, but I'd put them on the wrong side of the ledger. And it's one thing to talk to the media, but much more important would be the conversations with Hogan and his team. Hopefully Freo are taking a different approach than they have in the recent past with trades, but I think from what we hear about Hogan he's much more likely to relish taking on the no. 1 mantle rather than being sheltered in a workshop understudy role.

It's true that WC tend to get the job done with their trades in the past few years, but they tend to be with pretty poor players that no one else really wants.

Making a big noise in the WA eaglescentric media is one thing. Sitting down and talking to the player you want is another. Noone knows who has actually seriously been talking to Hogan, but after years of hearing and reading what the media have to say about Freo and the eagles, I would ignore everything they come out with. Their truth and accuracy rate is very low, their mischief making against Freo is very well established, and I'm sure taken into account by those who matter.

Do you think swapping pick 3 with 7 could get the McCarthy deal done? Or would that be silly? Probably still be able to get Tim English or SPS

Is that intrepid seeker of the truth in footy Kim Hackdorn being overtaken by new kid on the block "Staff Reporters" as the holder of the knife used to stab Freo in the back every time a trade deal is mentioned?

By the way , why would Mr & Mrs Reporters name their kid Staff?

As with most things, it's more about perception than reality. Most folk in the east think that WCE are closer to a flag and, rather than WCE being good at trading, it's clear we have been pretty ordinary. Put those two perceptions together with our lack of success and the rest writes itself, which is the kind of story that lazy journalists love.

Lobb is the best target for freo this year by a long shot. Tall, young, ruck forward with great hands and can kick goals. Get him for anything other than pick 3 and that will be a huge win for the club. But knowing bondy I can just see him landing at West coast and being a star for years to come.

So, other than pick 3, who on our list would GWS be interested in that we'd be willing to give up?
