I don't know why anything in the AA bull sh*^ is a surprise anymore but for some stupid reason I thought Neale was just about a certainty. But I stupidly forgot he was playing for Fremantle and that lessens his chances no matter what records he breaks.

You weren't alone there Corp, I reckon Dunstal was really surprised as well given the grilling he gave the panel over his omission. Having initially been fobbed off the Chief asked how Neale could not be included in the centre even after breaking a record which was a long standing all time record. The answer given was that those players ahead of Neale had " really outstanding seasons". Pathetic, I would have thought breaking a record like that was a pretty outstanding effort but I guess not.

The plonkers on telly stated at the end of the all Aussie team selection that no one would beat the team selected. I beg to differ, below is my alternate team.
FF - Walters- Freo , Jenkins -Crows, Puopalo - Haw
HF - Darling - WCE, Walker -Crows, Bruest - Haw
C - Hill - Freo, Neale - Freo, Sidebottom - Coll
HB - Hodge - Haw, Tarrant - Roos, Burgoyne -Haw
FB - Richards - Swans, Taylor - Cats, Hearne - WCE
FOLLOWERS - Sandilands - Freo, Yeo - WCE, Mitchell - Haw
INTERCHANGE - Lobb - GWS, Pridis - WCE, Prestia -GCS, Coniglio - GWS
A team of that caliber would match it with the team selected tonight I reckon.

Got the most possessions but really how effective . Kicked very few goals and at times I think most of his kicks went to no advantage or to the opposition.

Mid season, Exceed, Neale had a few games where his kicking was not flash, but he was still getting plenty of it. He at least deserved a spot on the bench. The player who was out and out robbed this year was Walters. His season was outstanding, given the way things went for Freo. Some last season put his name forward for captain of the team, and I thought it an unlikely appointment. This season his leadership and maturity shows he would slot into the role no worries. He SHOULD have been on a half forward flank in this years team ahead of both selections.

The thing with Neale's season was that he copped the opposition's best negator nearly every week and convincingly shellacked them in every single game. Unlike Selwood, Neale didn't have Fyfe to fall back on, nor did his kick always go to a Freo player because the other 21 only turned up for a half of footy here and there, our forward line a dysfunctional creature at best. To break a record as convincingly as he did was deserving of AA selection - you could place money on the fact that all previous record holders would have received it.
It means shit really, but I bet it would have meant something to Lachie, and it means even more to be rejected. I hope he comes out next year and smashes this year's record to smithereens providing CHF of the century Nat Fyfe with hangers of the MOTW variety and Walters and Yarran lace out every bloody centre clearance he racks up.

He's very good and important to Fremantle but he's not one of the top 4 midfielders in the league. If he'd gotten a dozen less possessions he wouldn't have even been nominated.
