Given what happened last year, where we tried to get Bennell and McCarthy and got none playing for Freo, I don't expect anything different. Though, it would seem that both Bennell and Cammac will don the purple, abeit 12 months later. Forget about all the media hype about Lobb, Kersten, Hogan, O'Meara, etc. Until they say they want to play for Freo, its all hogwash. If Mayne decides to take up the free agency option, we'll get some compensation. It won't be anything spectacular. If it was a 3rd round pick, we've struck gold. The AFL won't be so forthcoming.

So, you're on the money Hypen, with our picks 3 and possibly 39. Clearly we need another KPP and a ruck/forward. How good is Petrovski-Seton or this English kid. I've got no idea. But you would think, our pick 3 is going to be a gem.

Rest easy Goodie, spoke with young SF player a week ago and McCarthy has been training his ass off with sowfs, including doing extra running and weight sessions. He said he seems in a really good space since being allowed to train with the Bulldogs. He is fit, looks to have put his problems behind him and would appear ready to go.
He is not contacted to GWS at the end of the season they have no leverage over him, he has no interest in playing for an eastern states based team to the point he was willing to sit out a year of AFL football. If needs be he can nominate for the draft and we can get him that way. WCE are the only other club in contention and with the millions they are paying Nicky Noo Nah and Kennedy, Priddis etc, we will be more than able to match any offer they throw up money wise and pick wise (we will have more of them higher up). Don't sweat on the Camster I have a feeling that deal has been sketched out during the "Player Welfare" meetings conducted during the season between Freo and GWS.

Thanks bpurple great to hear he is training hard. I thought he was contracted for 2017 to gws? Anyway I think we will end up with him but I still don't think he will be let go cheaply. I also reckon gws will flat out refuse to talk to anyone about Lobb. I think we will get Kirsten but that hardly solves our myriad of problems.

Hogan is an interesting one. At the moment it is very hard to put a value on him. He has had some good games, but he has also had a heap of very poor ones, particularly in the second half of the season. His body language seems pretty poor and comes across as a bit sooky. We might benefit by holding off a year or two and seeing what happens.

bpurple McCarthy is contracted to GWS next year. They still have some leverage although not as much as last year.

There's a bloke called Apeness, who currently wears the purple, that have been forgotten by most about Pav's replacement. I mentioned this before, he was the understudy to Tom Boyd (Bulldogs), in the U18s, a couple of years ago. Boyd is a $1M a year player at the kennel. Watching both play on the weekend, I reckon, we've got a better deal. Given Apeness injuries since we picked him up, he's developing nicely. Suffice to say better than Boyd. Therefore, our front half with Cammac, Apeness, Yarran, Walters, Bennell & Weller/Langdon, are a young and pretty potent forward line. Though, I'm not salivating yet.

G Man Hogan is not happy being at Melbourne but not because he is playing for the team, this is again a location thing and some stuff at home that I cant go into detail about. He wants to come home but will not break his contract unless Melbourne are adequately compensated.
Jezza I know Lobb has not said he wants to play for Freo but he has said he wants out of GWS and to come home so he is a 50% chance to be at Freo if GWS let him go. I would take those odds anytime, roll the dice and see what happens. If GWs are pig headed like they were with Cam Mac then they lose him next year when he is out of contract. If they are smart they mange the transition and get good compensation for him, or get bugger all.

Everytime I hear of players linked to Freo, not much eventuate. Though, I'd like to throw a name up that perhaps, Freo should ask questions about. Majak Daw. If Mayne goes to Roos, it'll be interesting to see if Daw is up for the move. Imagine the hysteria.

Jezza if you throw Tabenner into that forward line as a tall mobile forward playing a linking roll from the pocket up to the wing, then you have two stay at home talls to shoot at and at least two excellent crumbers (who are not too shabby overhead either) at their feet. That is the sort of forward set up that can consistently kick a score. Pav with three hanging off him at FF and Mayne at CHF with Tabs having to go up the ground to get kicks just doesn't give you enough tall targets. Is Apeness going to be a dedicated forward or a ruck- forward type?

Apeness played Ruck/Forward in the U18s. His injuries has restricted him in that role since being at Freo. Saw Boyd go in the ruck on the weekend. Interesting? We bang on about our recruiters not getting it right. With Apeness, it's looking like they've got this one right. That is why I don't think, Lobb will come to us. Not because of his performance to date but I think more of what Apeness is capable of doing, injury free. That is why I think Majak Daw, would be a good pickup for when Sandi, Griffin and Clarke departs.

Goodie, GWS seem happy to trade with anyone but Freo. Freo should take them to the CCC for manipulating the market and collusion. That might see them more willing to trade with All other clubs, not just 16 other clubs.

Don't know if I'd trust that McCarthy. He ended up playing in Wolf Creek and to say he couldn't be trusted is an understatement.

Why shouldn't freo give pick 3 and whatever else it takes to get cam mac and lobb? Forward line and ruck sorted for the next decade. Once Sandi retires a forward line of Tabs, Apeness and cam mac. Lobb leading the ruck and swapping with Apeness as required. Of course it depends on GWS.
