Geez I hope we get McCarthy (Yarran keeps up his current trajectory, and the promises on Apeness and Taberner come to fruition ...)

If reports are correct three of our four leading goal kickers across 2012-2016 are gone ...

Pav - 211
Walters - 163 (including two seasons where he missed big chunks of footy)
Balla - 155
Mayne - 135

Demo he did say 3 out of 4. That leaves Walters as the lone ranger.

Latest gossip is Ballas in straight swap with Kirsten. Plus Mayne gone and our como pick to GWS for Cam Mac. That would be a win in my eyes!

Fatty M, were you thinking kirsten dunst? Interesting thought, what's her left foot like? I'm sure she'd draw the tags off Fyfe and Neale

Mayne compo pick for McCarthy? Tell GWS they are dreaming. McCarthy is worth a 3rd round pick at most now, Lobb is a different story if he legit wants to come to freo.

Pick 3 is off the table. That has petreveski seaton written all over it

Losing that second pick is a stinker. Strnadica will be available then. I hope we take Macready or Marshall two best talls going around.

Freo are going to get some early draft picks this year, so this year more than ever selection and trades need to be absolutely spot on. I believe we will get McCarthy for very little, maybe a third round pick, maybe a player surplus to our requirements in a trade. If we are serious about Lobb then we need to offer a high pick and maybe Clarke as a package, this is the most crucial trade as he is a mobile goal kicking ruckman, they are very rare. Pick three should be used on English or Seton Petrevski depending on what we see as the greater need, then we look at a possible deal for Hill and pick up defenders and mids with what we have left.
The wheelers and dealers at the club must earn their keep this time around. The trades are made easier buy the fact that Hill and Lobb are both from here and want to come home. It will be interesting to see who retires from our list on top of Pav going. We should have plenty of cash to offer at the trade table to attract guys here (rather than them going to WCE) so lets chuck it on the table. We need to get at least 80% of what we go after in this draft/trade period, having a quick squiz at what talent has been overlooked in the WAFL would not hurt either. If we could unearth another Ballas or Muzungu that would be an excellent result.

Totally agree BP. However Bondy is a tried and tested failure at the trading table, so we already know that the 80% hopeful plan will end up being more like one player on the wish list.... If we're lucky.
I have my doubts that McCarthy will be in the A's next year - as much as I rate him, he hasn't played for over a season so he's a long termer. Lobb and Hill would be my dream 'gets' so, FFS keep Bondy away from them and let someone else do the negotiating. Anyone. Pav?

Is a player that kicked 35 goals in 20 games in his second year of footy worth a third round pick? I don't think there is a recruiter in the country that would not do that deal. Maybe Chris Bond. Most would say he is easily a second round pick. Sure, the fact he has gotten homesick and walked out on his club has probably devalued him, but it has only devalued him if he has returned to a one-team town like Brisbane. You can be guaranteed west coast will be watching this one with interest and will swoop with a second round pick if we offer a third. A third round pick plus a player might cut it but I doubt it. Besides, why would gws want a fringe player from us when they are in premiership mode.
I think we can safely assume gws will play hardball and will not care one iota about the fallout from homesickness or mental illness. Their priority will be twofold- getting the best deal possible, and making it very hard for any other player thinking of doing the same thing.

For Freo, I feel the greater danger is that we recruit McCarthy and he comes back having done hardly any fitness or gym work in his time off. You would like to think he's been working his ass off but you never know.

Freo as it stands right now will get pick 3 and then pick 39 I reckon.
