Agreed, Exceed. Having our list manager based in Victoria and steadfastly ignoring WA talent is not doing us any favours.
As for the coaching staff, Roly has shown himself to be fairly inflexible. He keeps repeating the same mistakes with the younger players and all of the Roly rahrah in the world promoted by some on here can't hide that.
The game has changed. AFL has presided over an intentional revamping of the game to remove defensive game plans. Those who rely solely on a defensive lock down game plan will never be allowed to prosper under the current regime. Those who can adjust have adjusted. Those who cannot adjust will look like we did this year, lost and directionless.
Roly has pointed the finger away from himself this year by saying others made mistakes in the pre season. Fine. He has next year to provide proof of that by fixing our lack of direction, lack of skills and lack of creative play.
He started his response already. We'll be back playing finals in four years.
That to me says that Roly has no idea how to fix what ails us. Every other coach in the league looks forward to next year to address the faults of this one but somehow we are looking forward to more of the same. If he cannot fix this over the next preseason, then as far as I'm concerned he is not fulfilling his part of the contract.
A board that is doing its job should be researching alternatives as we may just be in desperate need of an alternative this time next year. It is beyond me that a coach of a team that finished on top of the ladder last year cannot see his way to recover from a bad season where he 'claims' to have identified where it all went wrong. If he knows where it went wrong in one pre-season, why is he now claiming its 4 years to fix it?
The word bull**** springs to mind.
