I reckon Roly definitely tried to change to game plan this year, but players were unable to execute it - they were thinking things through rather than playing with instinct. And the fitness thing. And the confidence thing.

The other side of that coin is using the talents of the players at your disposal most effectively. Perhaps that player would be better as an inside-mid that a half forward. Perhaps that player would be better as on the wing than backline. Perhaps we need to coach that player to improve things between the ears, so confidence improves.

Lots of work to do.

At the start of the year we were really crap – fumbling to absurdity not coping with the rule changes and 'new' game style – for sure - but we have advanced over the season. What I see now are young blokes finding their way at the top level - maybe playing ahead of time but getting in game time. They are still turning it over way too often (but not fumbling like they were) and as a result our structures are breaking down and we get pinged on the rebound. Its kinda understandable all things considered and when for most of the season our AAA of last year have not been playing. I am still a Roly fan. But do I agree with everything that comes from the coaches box? No. I would have played Barlow in the middle in our last finals for starters. I reckon next year we will win more than we lose and you can quote me. Here is a thought...what role will Mundy play next year? This year he has been moved around to cover our holes but is he still good enough to play in the middle. I'd like to suggest as a forward target but his contested marks count is quite low?

Right now, if Ross, with a good run with injuries next year plus McCarthy, Hill, Bennell and any other newly drafted players can't at least make top 8 next year I seriously think he should be shown the door particularly if he can't make use of some exceptionally skilled attacking style players.
I know he got us into the Grand Final but that was with a list of players that even the strongest of his admirers can't dispute was basically built by Mark Harvey. Ross has yet to demonstrate during his long coaching career an ability to build a successful team from scratch and the club needs to be decisive if we look like losing key team members such as Fyfe, Bennell, Blakely, Walters, Pearce etc due to any inability to reverse this trend in the next season and a half. The danger would be a fall in grace similar to Brisbane.s where the best players have left and they now just have a bunch of talented kids who get hammered every week.

I've patiently waited for our new game style to evolve however whilst our other cellar dwellers have shown some improvement in recent weeks against better credentialed opponents our has totally fell away to the point that we can't even defend and even some of our leaders, Mundy and Spurr, have been committing some of our worst clangers under increasing pressure. I know we obviously can't turn back time but we have to be alert to any looming disaster and take necessary measures to avert this even if it may cost us financially.

So Melb, with all their top end draft picks and Roosy coaching, still dishes up performances like today after 3 years of rebuilding and a new coach. Richmond, well enough said. And Carlton, enough said. The Roly bashers should take a hard look at these 3 clubs, then make an informed decision. 2 of the 3, have new coaches. Good decision that.
