We are getting flogged like GWS and Gold Coast when they entered the comp with a bunch of kids and this seems reasonable given the teams we are putting out have a lot of youth. The problem with this, ours are picks in the teens through to the 70s theirs were top top 10 and 20 picks.
We are in trouble and it may get better next year but not a heap better. I hope this was foreseen and this explains 5 years for Lyon. None of us saw Mayne forgetting how to kick, Zac Clarke and Griffen going backwards, Ballantyne struggling to impact etc.
We have absolutely zero ability to move the ball as I think Guy stated, this has to be accredited at some level to coaching.
While I am at it I have been thinking lately about our pressure forwards and their "manic" pressure. Somebody on the coaching panel needs to remember and remind them that the best way to pressure a defence is kick goals. If after kicking goals your defender wants to run off kick another, you will no longer have to chase him he will come to you.

I get the requirement for team balance and damage limitation on the scoreboard, I was disappointed that Blakely was dropped and Hughes this week. Ross has now stated it would cost a player game development time if he were to be too sentimental in team selection this week.
Collins was eventually selected this year when there was no other option left and the same with the resurrection of Silvagni.
Too many mixed messages from management to the playing group would be my feedback.

Yeah but nah. Essendon have got nothing!!!
They weren't expected to do well. We have made the biggest fall in the history of the game. We were expected to be in the finals again.
Three players out and we can only win three games shows how poor our list must be and what a lack of depth we have.
Even in the games that they played before getting injured and since Sandi's return we lost them all, in fact got thrashed in some of them.
If I was told that at the start of the year we would win the same amount of games as basket case Brisbane who need concessions to keep them afloat on and off the field and one more than drug decimated Essendon even with those three and (insert player's names here) out I would have said..."tell 'em they're dreaming."

Not quite right, Fyfe, Hill and Walters were all recruited by a former recruiting team.
In regards to Neale, some would say we got him by accident as the travelling pony for Alex Forster who was a howler of a pick..
Our recruiting has been terrible since Phil Smart left and we have clearly actively disregarded WA talent

In starts in the midfield. No backline can withstand the forward entries if they're not stopped up the ground. I think our recruting have got some things right. While we've overlooked WA talent in recent times, we have also got a few gems. Nonetheless, with some quality additions in this and next year's draft, Freo will contend again. Expect the following players to leave/traded: Mzungu, De Boer, C. Pearce, Mora, Mayne, Ballas, Suban, Clarke. Hopefully, we'll get some returns from the departure. Pretty sure the ins will add more value than the outs. I think Barlow will get a 1 year extension on his current contract. Had he not done his shoulder, we'd probably could have been more competitive.
