TOPIC: WA Today

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath. WA Today has gone to absolute cowpats since Hagdorn joined the team. He makes up stories for fun and most of his writing reads like it was Google Translated from Cyrillic.

He was calling Pav's retirement about 8 years ago.

I suppose the concerning thing is Ballas hasn't come out to deny the claims and until he does then this talk will continue.

Someone earlier mentioned that Mundy hasn't come up in trade discussion. The only reason for that is because according to hackdorn and "staff reporters" he has already been traded back to a Vic club about a dozen times in the last 5 years, and they have forgotten he is still here.
That hackdorn is that far from reality that he thinks April fools day is in the middle of august is the only explanation for this tripe that is not even worthy of wrapping decent fish and chips. (unless it's in the western suburbs)

It's only a couple of years back that I liked to stretch out in the mornings with a coffee and read theAge online, then click onto WAToday for the local colour...

but you can't do that anymore without the serious risk of throwing hot coals in your own eyes or similar... it's mind searingly dumb. As Shane said, they know click bait. Boy, do they know clickbait. If Hackdorn's made it into their pages then I'll call that confirmation bias in action and suggest they're master clickbaiters of the highest order.

That sort of rubbish being published with such frequency suggests a couple of things, though. One, things aren't quite right and something's been the catalyst for the stories, and two... a really professional footy club would act quickly and decisively to shut it down and clear the air.

Far be it for me to leap to conclusions... hang on, it's the Olympics, it's Leaping Season so here goes; the answer to the first is the question in the second. Or, as a wise man said just last week, the club's so far up its own arse that this is the new normal.

One thing I've learned from watching hours of marginal sports in the olympics, hypen, and it's the only thing , is that the Australian Industry Super ad has one brown person in it and she needs help from the friendly white people to hold her hands the right way.

Why aren't these journalists writing about racist superannuation ads?

There is a potential hypothesis here which I've generated from my own bias that Lyon has "lost" the players. If you have a boss who is a dick with a huge ego and who isn't open to direct approach/not likely to change what you're left with is to leave.

So we know Lyon has a history of churning through assistants. They tend to leave him rather than the other way around.

It's not too long a bow to think players aren't happy and are looking at other options and/or sending an indirect message.

They've probably gone in hard and told the players that no-one's position is safe after this season and it has unsettled them enough to look after their own futures now before the floodgates open.

This would be the same WA media that so vehemently believed and reported as such, that Chris Judd was staying at WCE and Pav was leaving for SA many moons ago?

Channel Weagles take every opportunity they can to smack down the Dockers. So as it stands it's only them and WA Today ('staff reporters') that have made the call.

I might wait for something or someone more credible (Donald Trump's Twitter account maybe) before I start panicking.

My two pesos worth is the whole thing went (and will go) a bit like this;

i Match committee work on their list management model, decide Ballas will be too old when the club's next in flag contention.

ii The possibility of trading Ballas is considered as an option to see what he might be worth in draft picks.

iii Club discusses the option with Ballas who doesn't want to leave WA and states that though he'd rather stay at Freo, if he's traded the toast is his only option (while probably fully aware they won't trade with us)

iv Club goes 'rightyo' puts the whole silly option back into the 'may be one day' file.

v Somehow someone mentions the whole sorry saga to the media who jump all over it.

vi Ballas doesn't deny it as he knows his trade value is being considered and doesn't want to limit his own future. Club doesn't confirm or deny as final decisions haven't been made.

vii Media speculation continues in the information vacuum and mistakes the silence for confirmation.

viii Ballas will be interviewed after tomorrow's win (just checking to see who's paying attention) and will state Freo is his beloved home and doesn't want to go anywhere.

ix Media sources continue to bang on that the club is trading him though in reality they're just weighing up all options.

x The whole things dies a natural death, only DLers remember what a series of nonsense media attacks the club's been subjected to and I quietly bask in my own glory at reaching x in Roman numerals.

So who are the big names leaving the eagles to head East? That is the conclusion I have drawn from this whole pack of innuendo and guesswork.

It's also been reported on last night by the afl site so I doubt it's just a random rumour Haggers came up with.

It has also been put to AFL.com.au by a source close to Ballantyne that the small forward made his intention to be traded known less formally more than a month ago.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

When you have a third of your list about to be delisted or traded there is bound to be a fair bit of angst around a footy club.
I consider Ballantyne a heart and soul player. But the reality is he is getting old, doesn't kick many goals anymore, and falls over all the time. We need as many picks as we can get and should take the opportunity to maximise this.

The trade is as good as done. Chris Bond is just haggling over how magic the beans we get will be.

He's pretty pleased with his progress in the negotiations because they started the bidding at Mung.

I loved Ballas as a player. I wonder how I go if he somehow helps the Weagles win a flag ...
