Not saying he will go, but players leaving clubs for the dream of a premiership is littered with failures..............also successes too I suppose. Might as well stay I reckon.

When you've already got 3 Coleman 2 premierships and someone backs a truck full of money up into your driveway, you're re not really fussed if there's not another medal at the bottom of it. But when it's a Sydney delivery, it's likely...

So, he wants to explore his options. Clearly, if he doesn't get a buddy type deal, he's out of here. Ok, what can we get for him?

It's a clear indication of where the Fremantle Football Club is at.

Of course "exploring all options" never hurts the end price of your contract any.

I took the interview as, "of course I am staying and you guys really have no idea as to how much its going to cost them".

Hackdorn breaks a lot of stories. None of them can be fixed. Ever. They are permanently broken.

I read it as Fyfe has agreed to re-sign but the club want to build the tension so they can announce it an a more beneficial media cycle.

They're not subtle about it. He's repeating the same line Ross Lyon gave when he was on On The Couch.

This will be the line in September/October.

Fyfe re-signed because he believes Ross Lyon has a plan to take the club back into a period of sustained success through growth and impovement. #growth #improvement

Oh, by the way, membership renewals are out on Tuesday.

Staying as long as he sees improvement apparently ...

There's a lot of upside to finishing third last.

I haven't seen any improvement this year, maybe Fyfe has. But there's three games left and we're three games behind Carltoon - win all three and we could leapfrog them and grab 15th place.

Fyfe has always been professional when speaking about himself or the footy, but I read that as more of a shot across the bows from him... part of a newer breed of young athlete who have a good idea of their own value in the game and how to go about maximising that value. The code has encouraged that thinking by openly aspiring to place itself above others in the market while seeking to emulate an EPL business model, something that was a theme under Demetriou.

Perhaps Shane's right in thinking it's all an orchestrated pitch from FFC and that fits with the seamless on message performances from Freo players in the media over the last 4 years or so but I can't shake the impression that it's also something of a statement from the player himself.

What it all boils down to, of course, is that when you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die.

Of course it's orchestrated. People involved in a negotiation don't read from the same media talking points.

Here's the narrative.

-Fyfe relates to the common supporter/sponsor by being unsure of the future after a bad season.

-Ross lays out his plans to Fyfe and Fyfe is so convinced that everything is going to get better that he signs an early contract extension.

-You the supporter/sponsor trust that Fyfe craves the ultimate success and wouldn't re-sign if the future wasn't bright, so you also re-sign with the club.

Then they all pat themselves on the back for being really clever and give each other pay rises. Then they realise it took so much of their time that they forgot to actually come up with a plan to fix the team.

*Pay rises is a euphemism.
