The thing about being an AFL coach is that you get a huge amount of money because it's assumed that you have unique talent and can expertly execute the skills required. To come out and claim an entire year was wasted because of your own negligence is extraordinary.
Then to conduct an internal review to find out how you were negligent, then announce that you'd worked out how to not be negligent next year shows an even greater level of negligence by the board. They should have had a proper external review to expose the realities of what went wrong to the board. Not just taken everyone's word for it.
When Hawthorn under Clarkson and Geelong under Thompson fell backwards, they were put under the torch by the administration and big restructuring was done. We just waved them through to carry on doing the same thing.
The club is lost up their own arse. Everyone is tied to each other at this point so there is no accountability. Whether the team comes good or not will not have been through good process, it will be by fortune of circumstance.
The club is being run the same way the team are playing.
