We have only 3-4 A-grade players on the park at the moment - and you think coaching is the problem?

We know our list contains too many fill ins, but take away the guts of the team, and even Clarkson would struggle to string wins together with them.

The loss of the half dozen or so elites, exposes the fragility of the list and shows how elite those missing are. Jeez I miss McPharln.

When new young players like Collins, A Pearce and Blakely seem light years ahead of some 'experienced' players you know you've got problems in your list management.

I get people don't like losing, but seriously, without the double whammy of retirement and mass injury we've copped, how many years would it have taken for Lyon to get games into the young blokes that should be in our starting 22 next year?

An award has to go to Sam Collins for putting up with the most pathetic gutless sniveling shirking inept Dawkins - top of his game today was Dawkins! An honorable mention to Lachie Neal who carried the midfield and a honorable mention to Walters who carried the foward line on his shoulders....again!
The rest of the list are either developing players - Langdon, Blakely, Weller,etc or decrepit never could be players who are a waste of space...you know who you are!!
Bring on the break it cant come soon enough even in Busselton!!

I think Snoop has a point in that, injuries
notwithstanding, Roly has to wear his share of the blame for our horror year.

We look unfit, disorganised and skills, decision making and confidence of our mid-tier, experienced players has clearly gone backwards.

Some of his match ups have also been terrible - not after the fact with hindsight terrible, but obvious at the time. Mundy not playing in the middle today being just the latest.

Looking for a much better year in the coaches box from Ross next year.

Im a big Roly fan but I agree with Snoop et al.
Roly is being completely outcoached by Clarkson and his minions.

Segment on the Couch this week summed up what we have been saying on here before about how good the Hawks are at only sending one guy in to tackle, then when they tackle, they dont jump in, stacks on the mill to create a ball up. They send in a lone assassin who chicken wings the guy, the result is a scrappy strip of the ball, the inside mid then feeds to the outer ring who are not ball following but have maintained a perimeter and who have stayed out of the immediate contest, They then handball backwards to HodgeMitchellBurgoyne until one is clear, analyse which of the three leading forwards they will kick it to and who then kick about 30 m on an angle into space, 35 m out to a leading Breust or Gunston.

Freo God Bless em, talk about 110% effort, send 5 warriors in to the ball carrier and usually force a ball up or in Subans case, fall on someones back. On occasions Fyfe wins it, handballs 1 foot to Mundy who handballs 1 foot to Neale who then tumbles a ball forward under pressure from the one Hawk. On the odd occasion we break away, we always bomb it 50 m in a predictable direct line to goal where Tab/Pav/Clarke all fly for the ball which is now landing on top of their heads because they have learned it is pointless to lead. They get swamped by defenders, It then spills to the front where there are no crumbers because Walters is being used on the ball or Ballas is flying high for a mark OR it just goes over the back and dribbles through for a point because it landed in the goal square.

There is a dozen of these scenarios where it is obvious we are being outcoached. Yes we would win more games if we had all our players but unless Roly gets some of this really basic stuff right we will be having to play at 110% to beat opposition with superior game plans who are having an off day. Whens the last time we beat the Hawks?

Yeah a lot of it is coaching. I cant believe Guerra and Hale arent having an impact.

Roly was either burnt out or was wary of it happening this pre-season so he tried to delegate more. Sadly, this is the worst crop of assistant coaches we've had in a while, so it was horrible timing. It may also be that he's just lousy at delegating - some people only have two speeds - flat out intensity and bugger all. Roly strikes me as that type of person.

Anyway, all the nuanced tackling strategies of the Hawks go out the window without continuity. All those players have played together consistently for years. We've had none this year.

It's amazing how some players get shown up when they don't have their better teammates around. I'm not sure that's coaching.

You lot are missing the real problem.

It's the catering. Freo oval has the worst catering in the AFL. Until you get elite catering you're going nowhere.

Until we get some Lite n Easy Quinoa chicken curry in, just like Hodge eats, we'll always be unfit and and disorganised.

But go ahead and blame everything else. I'm sure it's far more relevant.

The point Morgan made about Lyon having two speeds, I think there is something in that.

He has a new and inexperienced coaching team and this was the year he chose to let go. The time to let go was when he had Lloyd and Kirk.
