Could this be an option? (I am guessing we finish this low) I saw Tomlinson got 52 possessions in the seconds and is a pretty good lead up forward, he might want to come with his mate. In a year when pick 1 or 2 might be almost the same as pick 8 we might be better off going for an instant forward line.......

Brian Waldron* on 6PR last night raised the possibility that the AFL will change the rules before the end of this season when it comes to doling out draft picks. He mentioned that whoever finishes last (it could be Freo) won't necessarily get the 1st pick in the draft, that it would be weighted towards general suckiness over the past few seasons. By virtue of finishing high on the ladder in past seasons, but having a shite 2016, according to this rule change, Freo won't get the #1 draft pick. Instead, it will go to one of the teams that have finished at the bottom of the ladder for the past few seasons - think Brisbane, Carlton, St Kilda, Essendon. In fact, we may end up with no better than the 5th pick. Talk about patently unfair. If you're going to change the rules like this, you need a discussion and a lead up over a few seasons. Another sign that the AFL is full of shite.

*Forget the fact that Waldron might have a chequered past, on this point, he seems to have 'inside knowledge' of the sort Hackdorn can only dream about.

It's also patently unfair if your position on the ladder is compromised by having broken legs, ribs, a plethora of calf issues, a lack of strong second-tier reserves and an inability to adapt to a new game plan. I want the hope that comes from a higher draft pick for enduring a shite season, whatever the reason. The point is, you can't just change the rule mid-season. It's bush league.

That's the point though. Broken legs, ribs and calf injuries heal*. The season should be unaffected by the rules of the draft so changing them midseason has no consequence.

Disagree with all of that, Shane.

If the suggestion that the AFL will decide who gets what draft pick is true, then we will have a situation where the AFL provides a compromised fixture that provides advantages to Victorian clubs, compromised umpiring and now they get to compromise the draft on an ongoing basis.

There reaches a point where this stops becoming a sport and starts becoming a contrived entertainment along the lines of the Harlem Globetrotters or World Championship Wrestling. We are already seeing selective applications of the rules and have done to our detriment for years. How much further can they take it.

You can put your last dollar ion it being rigged to suit Victorian teams

Then it needs to adopted beforehand, with the agreement of the clubs prior to introducing such a rule change. It also needs to be fully explained and fully transparent, rather than being at the behest of AFL House.

The lack of ethical standards is the AFL's most notable facet.

Clearly we need the AFL to commission a survey on this matter.

Q 1: How likely are you to question the integrity of the AFL if they subjectively allocate draft selections in whatever manner they consider appropriate?

I've always thought that a one year trip to the bottom of the ladder should not get you priority picks, but this new idea really sucks.

Is it just me or do we cop it from new experimental rule changes way over the random frequency?

How do they judge performance? Over what period of time?
Is it on premierships? Just saying I have been following Freo for a long time. And during the grand majority of that time I have had fans of other clubs pointing out to me how shite Freo is and how we don't have a premiership.
