Dockermus,

Its pretty simple to work its coming from FDFC only as they are the only one who sell seats (after getting them from stadium management).

It clearly isn't the stadium managers asking for $3000 up front to reserve each seat location as stadium management dont reserve or sell seats to members, only the club does that. I'm not sure how you could arrive at the conclusion you did.....unless you are being contrarian of course

I'm coming round to Morgan's point of view. If there are people willing to shell out big bucks for baubles and trinkets, and if them doing so means ordinary, no frills, get your bum on a seat and watch the footy memberships will be cheaper, then good.

Yes. That's how things work. It's like the way they use the big corporate catering packages to subsidise the food prices for the general public.

The survey is completely tone deaf, but what would you expect from a “market leader in sports and entertainment insights, strategy and communications”? Did you really expect to complete a survey from these sorts of bozos and expect to feel better about anything?

Freo / Gemba are trying to find out how much money they can squeeze out of people for “game day experiences” not currently available at Subiaco. They would already have data on where people would like to sit, and how much they are prepared to pay for a seat. What they wouldn’t have data for is how much people are prepared to pay for all the other guff. That’s how the survey should have been pitched. I don’t know why they weren’t honest about this, but my guess is they wanted as broad a range of responses as possible, so they know what percentage of fans are chumps.

Fair enough if you are annoyed that you wasted 15 minutes. It’s all a bit cynical if you ask me. But vowing to not renew memberships because someone was asked a question about overpriced membership packages is jumping the gun a bit. It’s like getting mad that taxes are going up when asked in a phone interview how you would feel about taxes going up. People do surveys to glean information that informs policy. Going off about being asked the question seems premature.

The alternative is that the steves don’t ask questions like this. As much as the survey is naff and a bit cynical, I’d rather the steves get that message through the survey process than rely on their own judgment. When people make important decisions based on a whim, you end up with stadiums at Burswood.

You've taken the most extreme response and paired it with the tamest question because, I assume, you get scared by loud noises.

$3000 to get first dibs on the regular seats. That's the heart of it. The boxes are already built, the balconies and the barbecues are in the plans, the stadium catering company will handle the details of the corporate dining. That's all just cover.

The want to auction off the good seats. People will pay it. They know they will. What they wanted to find out was if they could get away with charging $3500.

It will be the first and only new stadium in most people's lifetime (or at least until it is enveloped in that 100 year flood) - of course the club will look at ways to make money from it. This sort of thing is not new; Harbour Masters paid, what, $1000 in 1994 (which has to be close to $2000 now factoring in inflation)? Some might have done this for purely selfless reasons, but many would have also been interested in the benefits.

I'd prefer they allocated the seats on a first-in members basis, but if a couple of thousand people are willing to part with a couple of thousand bucks to get the best seats, that's a lot of coin to leave on the table. Are you saying you wouldn't ask the question?

I'm saying right now they would absolutely do more good for themselves, the club and football in general by not asking the question.

In fact, if they were to have come out and strongly stated the exact opposite - that they will in no way take coersive or otherwise up front payments to reserve seats at the new stadium - they would be lauded as heroes and improve their standing in many people's opinions. Even dockerlanders'.

They have choices. The ones they are choosing are bad.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, you could get 2000 people to pay $2000 for choosing their own seat. By selling rights to the first 3% of the stadium capacity, the club could make $4m. Given we've just dolled out $10m for an EFAT, I'm pretty sure that money could go to good use.

I'm a 17 year member, so on membership longevity I'll probably be picking in the first 20% of available seats. Am I really affected by those first 3% of seats going to rich idiots?

It seems a bit deluded to think that any harm caused to me by this offer is more important to the club than $4m.

It seems even more deluded to think that the club asking me the question is of itself offensive. Tacky, sure, but $4m is worth a survey at least.
