Carlton have 4 wins on the trot now, by the way.

We've also got a few players on the list, as I said elsewhere, who have between 10-50 games up indicating that young players are being brought in and played. I actually subjected myself to the official website to check and there are a fair slice of players with 70 or under games, including Hannath, Taberner, A Pearce and Hughs. All tall.

Things aren't blindingly obvious. Things are murky and convoluted.

Our key deficiency is our lack of KPPs. Don't you think part of that rests with the drafting from 2007-2010 when we also didn't manage to find one in the national draft? If that was our golden era of recruiting, you think we might have nabbed one decent tall in there somewhere.

I disagree, Guy.

They've been obvious for years. Its just now that we are having to deal with them.

As for the 10 - 50 games players, so what? I can't see any relevance there. We still have issues with skills and we've had those issues for years. We have issues with tall KPPs not being ready to take over from McPharlin and Pav. We might have them in a few years but we sort of need them now, just like we need more guys who can reliably hit a target.

As for that list of talls you provided, Pearce looks the goods. Tabs also looks potentially to be a workable forward but not a power forward. Hannath I can't see ever making the grade. Hughes is a long way short of making the grade but he hasn't had the chance to develop yet.

Looking at Pearce as a future McParlin replacement is the only one that looks a definite. We have nobody to replace Pav or Johnson and nobody is ready now. That is the point of failure....and yes, its obvious

Liam will be rolled out next year with big new beaut story – end of an era at fremantle oval. new beginnings, break from the past, new start blah blah some human interest story to warm the cockles. Emotionalism to drive sales.

Look, I see the same arguments presented and repeated here and it's been that way since I woke up one morning and some bloke in a beat up old Datsun station wagon had chucked the internet at my front doorstep.

Those arguments seem to me to be more about justifying an opinion or agenda than about rational analysis and I see that pattern repeated across the footy spectrum, from half cut fans arguing in a pub to any one of the growing number of 'specialist' footy shows and panels... everyone just argues their personal agenda.

I'm no fan of Rolyball or what the Steves have done but I don't agree with you Yeti, or any of the recent harsh criticsm of the club and its operations, because I don't think it's accurate criticsm, I think it's emotional. I think a lot of people have so much invested in seeing this team succeed that they're not sitting back and trying to balance all of the factors that might be contributing to the current situation. There's nothing wrong with that of course... it's sport, basically. Irrational, heated, occasionally hilarious or inspiring but loony as all hell. The rugby's been great.

You may not like what I say but that doesn't make it wrong.

Its accurate. Very accurate and making silly statements about datsuns wont make it go away.

I said similar things last year and the year before that about our skill levels and the 'fact' that we miss simple handballs and simple kicks to targets. Our skills are not as good as the clubs we have to beat. If my saying that makes you uncomfortable then don't read my comments but then don't get disappointed when we get beaten by better skilled sides.

I want the club to succeed and Rolyball as we know it is officially dead.

We may get a variation of it but we need a variation with better skills. We also need better planning by the club to identify and develop players to replace essential cogs in our wheel. We haven't done that well as we clearly cannot replace Pav, McPharlin, Johnson let alone have two marking tall forwards. Those are facts.

We don't have a replacement for Sandi as well. Griff is too old as a long term replacement, Clarke isn't going to make it and we seemingly have nothing else on the horizon.

Lack of forward planning isn't a great advert for these guys. They're actually being paid to plan ahead oddly enough and if its been obvious for someone like me for some years, why wasn't it obvious to them

All this criticism of Bond for the drafting and the lack of talks/KPP's is valid, however, I have to ask, surely he doesn't do the drafting without any input from the senior coach. Shouldn't the coach, whether is be Harvey, Lyon or whoever, be held equally accountable for our drafting decisions over the last 8 years?

Just for fun, can anyone list all of these poor recruiting decisions that have been made?

That would include naming the other players available at that selection point who have gone on to success as opposed to just saying 'X Player is a dud'.

Its very hard to point to recruiting non-decisions and say they were a dud, Guy.

The criticisms I made were of the failure to address our skill levels, which doesn't involve dud picks. I also discussed our failure to select talls and prepare them for the days when the like of McPharlin, Pav, Sandi and Johnson retire and the lack of replacements is obvious.

Asking for a list of dud picks doesn't really address either of those issues does it?

I wonder how long I will be waiting for Freo to become a premiership contender again?

It's just that I"ve been waiting as long as most and can't see a ray of light at the moment.

My hope of improvement that I had years ago has faded badly this year and certainly the

moments of pleasure we had over the years with Clive, Jeffrey, Modra et al Just don't seem

as intense these days. I suppose it could be me getting old. However, I think I'll still be a

Freo fan long after R Lyon has moved on, which I somehow think will be in less than five years time.
