In an airplane though Guy?

Shane, it may only be 10-15 times a year but if it wears on you, eventually you'll loathe it.

Nelson, 196cms hey?
Have you got a pair of footy boots?

FreDoh your list is comparing statistics from 2 clubs vs something like 14 other clubs.

Which makes it a meaningless comparison.

Are there any Collingwood or Richmond players to have played 300 plus since 1987? Because I don't see any on your list and they travel the least out of any teams in the league.

196 cm tall you say Nelson. And willing to travel too.

Bondy will be in touch soon. You're the closest to KPP he 's been able to get at the Dockers, even if it is just Dockerland.

Fre_DOh, our charter prefer to chuck us around WA aboard flying bricks.

Anyway, getting back to something important... who's going to go whacko on Slappo? He's a deadset goose.

There are 16 on that list who flew every second week for all or a significant part of their careers

seriously slappo and fatso should just shut up.
Can you imagine their silence if Hogan was destined for the Weags....If they did say anything there would be no more free tix, cling on days etc.
Peter Bell - Where are you giving us the opposite view - Just look at old Frequent Flyer Pav. Hasnt paid for a family holiday in 15 years!

Let get one of these. The box thingos will actually extend your life while flying provided the control computer is properly programmed.

KK, 14-2 is a ratio of 7:1, hardly the same as 35:1.

With another 15 active players between 250-299 games, the ratio is likely to be near 45:1 within 3 years.

300 games was an arbitrary figure. If you make it 200 games, there are 9 Freo players, 8 Richmond players and 18 Collingwood players.

Mushroom, many of those players were Sydney based. They probably spent more time travelling to the airport than in the air. Of all the players on that list from non-Victorian clubs, Tyson Edwards made the trip to Perth most often (21 times). Even Pinchy Harvey has only been to Perth 28 times.

Where do you doubters stand on Pav being absent this week? Shirley he should be out there, he's only played away 161 times, once more cant hurt.

Anyway, I see the bovines have returned, so enough of this nonsense for me. Cheers.

And the number of WC players who have played 200+ games Fre_DOh?

You don't want to muddle the immediate/short-term disruption of flying to a team performance and recovery and the long-term impact to a career. There's much more clear and likely reasons for short-term impacts, while it's very difficult to identify anything other than a vague suppositions taken from correlations to career lengths regarding longer term impacts. Flying seems an obvious thing that is different to players and it feels better blaming it than saying "hey I'm mortal" and most players don't spend their time really thinking deeply about things in general, let alone anything all sciencey.

Pav's absence is very explainable via the short-term impact, and I'd bet that the people making that call to rest him couldn't say with anything approaching certainty, that going to Tassie would make more difference to getting through the season than if Pav played a game at home and they disrupted his sleep and recovery for a 3/4 a day by flicking him annoyingly with wet jandals.

Isn't it more about saying one player from Fremantle on that list of the 300 club is comparatively even with the 0-1 players from Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon over the same time frame - that's how I interpreted King Kepler's remark.

In the 200 plus games club West Coast have 18 and we could probably include Bell and Farmer to make 11 for Fremantle (obviously with 8 years less in the competition).

I am in Fre-Dohs boat on this one. This being my prefferred mode of transport.
I don't know what the science is, but can't imagine that flying each week has any positive impact on prolonging a career. Even the impact of not being able to start your recovery until the next day must cost players the occasional game.
Although hard to measure it must take something for a player to be mentally ready to jump on a plane and spend 10 hours in the air and in airports every second week. Let's face it flying sucks.
Everybody is going to say they are highly paid sports stars and that's what they get paid for. In todays AFL world, this is their job and when they get tired of it they quit, just like you and I. If they lose the enthusiasm and continue for the money their form suffers and they get dropped.
Pav is a freak, one massively dedicated driven and loyal individual, very few players have these attributes in the same measure.

Airports are pretty well designed these days and the seats and facilities are pretty reasonable, and you can watch some cool movies and stuff on planes.

Neck pillows are over rated but I hear ugg boots and tracky daks are making a massive comeback.
