TOPIC: Tank your crank

Do we really just want to get rid of all the older guys? What about keeping some of them in case we get injuries? Look at the Hawks who played Spangher in a GF. I'd also keep De Boer just for Derbies.

I think Sheridan is ok and will get better. Has reasonable speed and will bulk up more as well as more confident. He only has 50 games. You may have me on Sutcliffe but her he played out of his skin in 2013.

I admit Ibbo is good but will he be there in 4yrs when Fyfe holds the cup aloft? No. Better up giving his spot to Sam Collins or Darcy tucker

I'll agree with you on giving Collins a run, Tonk. It annoys me though that we are constantly undersized in the backline yet we only ever play two talls and expect Ibbo to be the third tall. Adelaide, NM & Giants all have three big forwards and we are outmarked too easily.
One of the smaller backmen needs to go to make way for Collins and personally I think Sheridan is first cab off the rank.

Pav rested.

Anyone still think we are not tanking?

Out of curiosity, at what point does the AFL take an interest in us 'resting' players? I thought we might have gone with the 'general soreness' story with Pav rather than straight out saying we are resting him. Does resting 1 player count as tanking? 2 Players? 3?

I'm guessing the AFL wants to protect its product in map of Tassie. Assuming Pav is still rated in out best 18, (which he is) we are deliberately not fielding our best team and if we get flogged (which we probably will) how will the AFL react to us contributing to a non-spectacle of a game?

I hate the fact that determining when a team is tanking is purely subjective. Can anyone tell me if there are there any definition or guidlines in the rules about what constitutes tanking?

Player management is a legitimate part of managing the health of a squad throughout a season. So the AFL should either stop making "tanking" a penalisable offense altogether, or put some rules around when you're allowed to rest players, which players you can rest and how many of your players you can rest for any given game.

That would free up clubs who don't stand much of a chance of making the finals to tinker with different structures and blood some youngsters without coming up with such sophistry as "general soreness" which frankly undermines the integrity of the game.

Not taking an old bloke who was talked into going around one more season to Tasmania is hardly controversial. It's probably in his contract.

Hey, what if we put it in everyone's contracts, then the AwFL couldn't make us go on the unnecessary & longest trip in the comp.

On Channel Eagle, Rossco said that Pav's absence from Tassie was determined at beginning of season (/sarcastic font/ probably in anticipation of us being 0-7 by now /end sarcastic font/).
Given how close Launceston is to Antarctica, the AFL should allow our lads to play in full body skins and gloves, beanies and earmuffs.
As for travel, the Dockers will fly over on Thursday afternoon, the Hawks will saunter in to their hotel late on Friday afternoon, and no doubt be home in bed in their Port Melbourne condos by the time the Dockers' plane reaches the Great Australian Bight on Saturday night.

I think tanking can only be if the players on the park on the day don't try and win. Like if, for example, they keep deliberately missing set shots on goal.

Weren't Melbourne accused, a couple of years ago now, of tanking because they were deliberately playing players out of position, they were getting utterly belted, and refused to reposition under any circumstance. Oh right...

If we tank play a development side for this game every year and generally make it as boring as possible will the afl stop sending us? If Ross is only allowed to say yes, no and maybe at the presser that would help. Plenty of passing back and forward across a half back crescent, aim for 50% of playing time.
