Its a repeat of our method from the end of last year. No drilled system or energy to create for getting the ball into the forward line - or even getting the ball. No cohesion (and Fyfes worst game). Why play Mundy in the backline if we can't get the ball at stoppages? Roly doesn't seem to have the ability to react and modify the game plan to get something going. Under pressure we wilt and the other clubs know it for this year. Lose a couple more like this and Roly will be forced to introduce younger players. I cringe thinking about the Derby in 2 weeks time!

When were weren't under seige - and we did get flogged in the contested and uncontested possessions in the first half - but those moments when we had the ball and could attack the same problems surfaced.

Particularly annonying is the player who is forward of the play just about waiting in a stationary postion for the ball to arrive and being closed down. Its like they've got nowhere else to run to, so they have to stop and call for the ball.

A lot of players looked sore. Hill, Fyfe, Mundy all limping during the game. Clarke was hobbling around for the first 5 minutes after laying on the ground after the first ruck contest of the game. Pav reported - may be lucky for low impact, but it was dangerous.

I didn't think we'd win, but that was one of the all time low performances and I'm kind of glad that those late Bulldogs goal made the scoreboard fairer.

Dawson clearly our best player today. Good teams come back from this, but on form, you'd think Gold Coast are a good chance next week.

If Zac D was our best on ground, it has to be time to rebuild. The footy world is leaving us behind.

I remember a similar start to the 2006 season and we were written off early but stormed home. The same things were being said about the Hawks last year.
Having said that it is obvious we need to turn the wheel on about 5 or 6 players. We have almost morphed into WCE of 3 years ago with too many 1 speed players playing in the team.
Weller, Langdon and Blackely need to be played. Bennell will add to our attack and Alex Pearce with Sam Collins need to be down back. Not sure about Sutcliffe and Sherrdan down back, they are not big and not especially quick. Z Clark is gone for mine, he just refuses to compete and I rekon Hannath is just a harder player. That needs to be sorted out because Sandilands will be gone in a year or so. Yarran should get a run in Maynes position . Not panicking yet but changes need to happen and we do have the personnel to do it.I am sure this is not how Ross trained the team over the pre season but changing and perfecting a new game plan takes time. We are a super defensive team trying to become an attacking one. We are also a few weeks behind as far as pre season goes due to our later finish to last season. All contributing factors so let's see where we are at round 10. Chill.

The Bulldogs have made a lot of good sides look silly at Etihad in the last couple of years. What was most disappointing today was our lack of effort. We look tired and disinterested and its round 1...

By 10 points, Jonno.

We were not even pretending to be competitive to day. 11 goal loss with almost zero effort on display and even less skills. You don't build a season that sort of performance, unless you're tanking (or not tanking if you're Melbourne)

Today was utterly sub standard and no amount of spin can hide that

Yes it's a long season
Yes it was round one
But the effort was ordinary
And it's unacceptable for a team challenging for a place in the finals

I have finally given up on Griffin, Clarke and Taberner. Unfortunately that means Sandi has to ruck all day and somehow spend half the game in the forward line, because we have no other talls. We badly missed Johnson in the back half today, but I doubt he'll be fully fit this season anyway. Alex Pearce is our remaining hope. Our midfield looked old and slow today, and averaged about 60% kicking efficiency - Bulldogs 75-80%. Looking at the other teams over the weekend so far, they all move the ball quicker and more efficiently. One can only hope this was an aberration. I stayed home from golf to watch that rubbish.
