We should have a training system that gets going guys ready for afl level footy, learning the Freo game style, and building bodies steadily without throwing them in the deep end risking long term damage, either in game or by attempting to build bodies too fast.
Think of those elite tennis schools where you aren't allowed to hold a racquet the first year. The next year you do the moves with a racquet, year 3 you start hitting balls. We want to be building basic movement, body strength, stamina, kicking skills, game smarts, etc, rather then sending them out to take on guys with years of development.
Obviously if you're desperate to win a game you'll do anything but this is not where you want to be. New guys need about 3 years in the system to get a game at Hawthorn. It seems to work.
