As much as I feel Freo got ripped a new one and I wanted Freo to contest, I don't see how they could have got the sanction reduced (and contesting carried a risk of a two week ban);
It was classified as Careless (Intentional would have been an extra week).
It was classified as High contact ... no argument there.
It was classified as Medium impact ... very hard to argue it was Low impact when the injury is taken in to account and Richmond so kindly provided their medical report.
...but given the MRP are supposed to be more transparent and they now regularly include 'a medical report from insert Freo opposition team name here was used in settling the final penalty' ... why don't we get to see the content of that medical report?

The purple in me struggles with that bump even being a reportable offence (because we know 211 is as fair a player as there is out there), but if the same thing happens to us later in the season, we would want the MRP to look at it.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

The penalty is irrelevant. Its a matter of blatant injustice and setting a precedent for the season proper.

Are we saving our appeals for a really important appeal!!??? Rubbish, the club should be ensuring that the VMRP are going to earn every last Subway platter delivery. Make them work into the wee hours reading through a 'War and Peace' document prepared by the best purple wearing legal team in the land, every time they sanction one of ours with a complete bollox decision.

Time to bloody well make a stand Freo FFS!

PF the problem is, it is not setting a precedent, because when Mundy goes third man up and gets his jaw broken by a Victorian ruckman the MRP will call up the "bad technique, should not have been contesting the ruck knock, plays for Freo, no penalty against Grundy (or whoever) who cares about Sandilands penalty in the nab cup" card' Freo appealing the decision will see at best a 1 week, he was in the wrong, or at worst a 2 or 3 week penalty.

Drubbing, I do agree with you that Sandi had the intention of blocking, but... we have seen this kind of rubbish so often it defies belief. Is blocking and shepherding the same as bumping in a hip and shoulder, and does it matter?
For there not to even be a mention of the cowardly act by Grigg of coming in fifth to roundhouse a bloke with his arms pinged, but a 239 game veteran with a completely untarnished record gets shafted, it doesn't sit well.
I can't imagine the former Richmond player appointed to the MRP was too rigorous in his applying the letter of the law to cite Grigg (it did not even rate a mention to even be dismissed), but I reckon he was happy to make a quick call to club medicos "very honest and reliable medicos" no doubt, and "good blokes" too.
What Grigg did is the kind of average cowardly crap that Phil Read attempted on Adrian Fletcher, and we know the result of that.
Yes, I know the head is sacrosanct, lord knows Fremantle fans are well aware of that, but does the precedent always have to be one of our gun players? I mean, let's face it, Grigg is crap. If he never played again folk wouldn't even notice.

What a load of rubbish, I fail to see what other option Sandi had available to him, he did not bump but blocked and the Tigers player was clumsy in the extreme.
In this situation Dawson appeared to be third man up. At the game with the windy conditions, boundary throw ins on that side of the ground appeared to be very inconsistent in their height and depth leading to the view that Sandi was farther from the contest.
Club absolutely should have contested vigorously and vocally at both tribunal and in the media. Once again we are a soft target with few media expressing outrage as maybe expressed in the hodge goal post incident last year.

Sandi's actions here are not really the point.
Everyone will see things slightly differently and have a personal view, umpires included.
The question is if it had been a ruck man from another team, would the MRP have come to the same decision?
This is where rolling over every time becomes a bloody curse. The MRP (& umpires) want to be viewed as strong and decisive and in control. Hand out firm decisions that protects players safety is a good look in the media and they get a pat on the head from the top. Unfortunately, it is also a natural reaction for a bully (read MRP) to pick on the weakest. Do they pick on those that cop the beating and say nothing or the ones that shout and fight back?
