The problem is Drubbing is that Bondy does exactly that, he gives us nothing. It's been a well known fact for a while now that our list has certain deficiencies yet Bondy still does nothing. Please Bondy, do something!! Actually I think right now he's working very hard on his Xmas card list and for that we should be eternally grateful. I just hope he remembers that there's an important date coming up on the 24th November.

Pick 22 is way too high for a 25yo looking for a 2nd go in the AFL system. Some players bodies are just suited to a level of football below the AFL. People say that Taberner should have already made it as a 22yo. I don't know if VFL form is much of a guide. There's a lot of weak sides with the AFL alignment clubs having come in over the last decade and the talent pool spread thin.

There's no ready made quick fix now, but I'd rather pick up a younger mature age key position player like Marcus Adams from WAFL and hope he's like a Harry Taylor - able to step up in his first year - albeit that Harry Taylor made a costly momentum changing error in his first grand final appearance.

I'm loving how Bondy keeps finding different ways to burn some of you blokes up.

One one hand he didn't offer enough to GWS to get the McCartney deal over the line (Hill or Fyfe would have covered it easily, and we would have got steak knives too), but on the other hand it seems that we or he shouldn't have bothered offering anything because it was a case of move on, nothing to see here, even though the player, his family and his manager were putting it out in public that he wanted to come back to WA.

And does Sam Grimley even get a say on whether or not he goes onto our permission to train list. Well stick him on it anyway, it'll look good on everyone's resume.

The trouble is Chewy although he might be on his second AFL chance we badly need someone to step in and play straight away, right now! We don't have the players on our list or can afford to draft some more young unproven talent that will be good in a few years.

Just sad and disheatening that with all the layers of management at freo we find ourselves in this situation.

Jeez Louise, we just finished a season as minor premiers, missed out on a second GF appearance by bugger all, in losing the prelim it was to a team that has played in the last four GF's having won three of them and we have gone into depression and panic because Cam McCarthy did not come home.
Collingwood had similar problems with Brisbane when they did a similar trick back in the early two thousands, but they hung in and won a premiership.
We have just recruited Mr attack and destroy from the Gold Coast, Tabs is set to have a breakout year, we have a bloke who can cover McPharlans retirement in Alex Pearce, we have the current reigning Brownlow medallist and best player in the league on our list in Nat Fyfe, Alex Silvagni and Tanner Smith both deserve to get a run in the backline. This year may well see Blakely, Langdon and Weller unleashed on the rest of the AFL world. Our young tall's are now not so young tall's and should be given the opportunity to play. There is no point developing players for three years then delisting them because some other bloke at the same development level might be better. Give them a go and we may well be surprised, if they fail then delist them and give the next crop behind them a go.
The real kicker for me is that with Father son and academy picks in the draft some handy players may fall our way.
Our upside is massive, though I am sure we will be (once again) written off as a side that has peaked and is on the slide, but I just cant see how we will not get stronger.

Tall options on Freo's List:
Alex Pearce - Defender/Forward 200cm 92kg
Tanner Smith - Defender 196cm 95kg
Sean Hurley - Defender/Forward 193cm 92kg
Zac Dawson - Defender 197cm 92kg
Mat Tabbener - Forward 198cm 95kg
Mat Pavlich - Forward 192cm 99kg
Michael Apeness - Forward/Ruck 200cm 101kg
Jack Hannath - Forward/Ruck 200cm 101kg
Alex Sivagni - Defender 192cm 92kg
Michael Johnson - Defender 195cm 88kg
I have left out Mora as he is delisted and also left out the three rucks in Griffin Sandi and Clark all well over 200cm.
It is not a lack of tall options Freo has it is a lack of willingness to play them. Johnson, Dawson, Sandi, Clark and Pavlich are the only players getting a regular game at Freo. No wonder they are stuffed by the end of the season.

Glad I'm not Ross though. You win 9 games straight, and you don't really want to make too many changes. Then it bites you in the bum when you have to bring back Mzungu at the end of the season and realise he needed a few more runs to be at his best. Anyway, looking forward to Apeness getting a few games. Hopefully A Pearce continues on from last year, and the young guys step up.

Tabener set to have a break out year? I remember that being said about him and Apeness last year. At least Apeness had a reason it didn't happen.
And still from that list the only proven big forward we have is 34 yr old Pavlich.
Just because someone is tall, it doesn't make them a forward. e.g. Hannath, Sandi, Griff.

bpurple, your list needs a little editing.

Alex Pearce - Defender/Forward 200cm 92kg – Looks a fine prospect, still unproven against the real monsters of the league. In no way ready to replace Elvis. Yet.
Tanner Smith - Defender 196cm 95kg – Back on the rookie list. Barely WAFL level at the moment.
Sean Hurley - Defender/Forward 193cm 92kg – Rookie listed. Miles away from AFL level.
Zac Dawson - Defender 197cm 92kg – Everybody’s favourite escaped goat. Hypen excluded.
Mat Taberner - Forward 198cm 95kg – Make or break year coming up.
Matt Pavlich - Forward 192cm 99kg – Old marvel in his last season. Did I mention he’s old?
Michael Apeness - Forward/Ruck 200cm 101kg – Injury prone. Not likely to be available until some weeks into the new season.
Jack Hannath - Forward/Ruck 200cm 101kg – Groan.
Alex Silvagni - Defender 192cm 92kg – Can be relied upon to either be injured or suffer brain failure.
Michael Johnson - Defender 195cm 88kg – Superstar also not getting any younger.

The only game I have Smith play at AFL level was against Port in round 23. He managed 11 kicks took 8 marks and gave off 6 handballs. Alex Pearce who we all assume to be a better player managed 6 kicks 2 marks and the same amount of hand balls. This was also without any of our regular talls to back them up. Seemed right at home on the big stage and was one of our better players on the day.
In the same game Hannath and Clark rucked for us with Clark being the primary ruckman. Hannath got 6 kicks took three marks and gave off 5 handballs (13 tap outs). Clark managed 1 kick 0 marks and 3 handballs (16 tap outs). Hannath to me is a better option than Clark at this stage and deserves to be the back up behind Griffin and Sandi. I think Hannath and Smith are escaped goats without really even having the chance to escape. They need to play more than one game a season at the top level to be judged as no good. Peter Bell springs to mind as a victim of this type of thought process.
David Hales recruitment to the club for me signals an intent to coach our rucks to be more attacking in the way he was as a player, I think Hannath and Apeness can be transformed into that type of player.

If Smith is that good why is he back on the rookie list-Again! particularly when we have such a lack of other prospects.
