1 game at the G, hawks in tas again and Melbourne in Darwin !
Teams played twice;
Eagles
Crows
Gold coast
Giants
Dogs

Looks like those who were suggesting we wouldn't get to play the expansion teams twice until they were finals contenders were half right, GWS will be right in the mix next year, gold coast should have been by now but after last year and losing Bennell & Dixon in the off season, cannot see them being a threat next year, the other 3 were finalists so no surprises there.

Three Sunday pm home games in a row.
R19 v Syd
R20 v WCE (Fremantle home game)
R21 v Adel

Then R22 at Sydney Showgrounds v GWS (6 day break)
And R23 at home vs West Bulldogs**

A long break in the bye round. Fri night at the MCG* v Coll, then 15 days to next fixture at Darwin v Mel, then six days to a home game on Friday night v The Cats.
Off to the Gold Coast again in July.

* this is our ONLY game at the G in the H&A season. It should serve as a good warm up for our following appearance there on 1 October.
** all the Round 23 fixtures are currently (on the AFL fixture app) set for Saturday 27 August, but it is to be played over the whole of that weekend.

Not happy about playing Hawks in Tassie... again. Could have been a game at the G. But to be honest its not the hardest fixture with the Eagles the only top 4 team we play twice.

Hey its easier than West Coasts though
they play
Hawthorn
Freo
Adelaide
Collingwood and
Brisbane
We will be hearing their complaints about how hard their draw was all next year.

Playing in 7 different states next season is a bit rough. Dunno how many other teams this would happen to.

AFL's response to WC wanting more games at MCG, give them 3 but reduce Freo to 1. Why? Because Melbourne teams that sell games interstate never play them against big V sides. I applaud the Roos who, for the second season in a row, will play Richmond in Hobart.

The revenue vs equality debate will continue.

Well, its still a FIXture that suits the VFL.

I wonder what it will take to get an injection of integrity into this competition. Replacement of the current commission might be a good start.

Any chance the travel burden could be shared so that some teams are not continually put at a major disadvantage? It appears the VFL solution is to try and increase the travel burden but only for interstate clubs

If we played football other people wanted to watch then they could afford to send us to the MCG.

The last round is a floating round. So we should have a 7 day break coming back from Spotless against GWS going into Rd. 23. I think our draw this year is quite favourable with only 4 six day breaks, none of which are consecutive. Of the teams we play twice, I don't see GWS, Suns or the Crows a finals threat. The Eagles and the Dogs could pose an issue but IMO, I like our odds. So do I start booking for that day in October.

I see they've given the Eagles a home twilight Derby. I guess, despite all evidence to the contrary, the WAFC are banking on the hope that Eagles fans have mellowed since their old Derby pie throwing days.

Gee, with a bye before the start of the finals, is there much point in aiming to finish in the top 4 other than a double chance?

I hate this fixture. The top 6 sides at the end of the season were us, Hawks, Sydney, WC, NM and Adelaide. And we get to play 2 of them twice next season. I would really like us to play the Hawks twice (once at Subi), and Sydney twice.

And the usual token game at the MCG. Sucks.

I'm just happy we don't have a Thursday night game. We do have one Friday night v Geelong but I'll just request half a day off of work

Actually this draw is fantastic! nominal six day breaks and we only travel three times in the last seven rounds, taking on Demons, Suns and Giants. the only 50/50 match is the derby suggesting we could pick up 8 from 8 wins leading into the finals and at least a 7/3 win loss record in opening 10 rounds.

18/4 win / loss looks doable based on this draw.
