Next year will need to be a looser year for us and some short term pain for long term gain.

Hypen, playing FF closer to goals IS turning RLs game plan on its head. Seriously, 4 years with the list the saints had and 4 years with our list (which personally I believe has a lot of wasted talent on it) and he has managed 3 GF losses and a GF draw. I really don't think his plan holds up on the biggest of stages. In fact I don't think it holds up on the bigger grounds full stop, so unless they move the GF to etihad I don't think we'll win with RTB at the helm.

I find it difficult to explain in words but despite the wins, possibly in spite of them, something has gone missing from the Club since Ross Lyon rocked up.

Whether it's the sterility of the unwavering belief that if you get your systems right everything else takes care of itself. Or the infuriating constant dismissal of every single quarter-brained, half-brained or full-brained football commentator who suggests you need to kick higher scores to beat the best and therefore be the best. Or the wicked corporatisation of the "people's club". Or something else, I'm not sure.

But there's a chunk of the soul not there and I don't have one iota of feeling that it could be found within the next twenty years to win this thing.

I'll just have another drink but I don't think what Ross needs can be found in a bottle.

To be fair to Lyon I think he has taken us a long way with the cattle we have. We desperately need players with better skill level and it is a credit to his coaching that we regularly go as far as we do on sheer desperation and effort. Unfortunately that won't win us a flag.
We must get mccarthy and bennell. We need a full forward and we need a highly skilled mid/wingman. We don't need jetta as much. I am nowhere near as convinced as the 'experts' that our window is shutting. It could be opening further but we need goalkickers. Sumich should be worried about his position because our goalkicking has been terrible this year and if we'd kicked straighter we could have been in the big one. A number of players will be moved on or offered as trade bait.
It's still pretty raw. I'm bloody depressed.

I will go as far as to say that what Ross the Boss has done this year was remarkable.
Now Tell me, who didn't enjoy sitting on top of the ladder and taking out the minor premiers for the first time in club history.

It's just a shame tonight couldn't have gone our way just a tad more.

But, it's all done and dusted now.

So now we move forward with a couple of openings in our list and a number of players raring to go.
And hopefully in trade period we can have a win and be in a good position leading into the pre-season.

I reckon Ross is doing alright. It's the manpower we require. Get the right people and we'd be laughing.

But that's the problem here, we don't have the right people and for some STUPID reason or another we always seem to miss out on them.

Four consecutive finals series, three consecutive top four finishes, two home preliminary finals, a minor premiership and a grand finals appearance. When previously we couldn't string two seasons in a row in the top 8.

Surely you are kidding about the right people? We have tonnes of talent on the list and have had so for a while. We finished top of the ladder well enough but never playing the right footy to compete with the best and it showed during most of the season. Yet we did nothing to fix it.

RL's only reasoning between the first half of the season and the second being so different was the form of Tabs, Pav and Hendrix which suggests a number of things. First we should've been placing a greater weight on drafting tall forwards in previous years to fix this and second, if form of KPF's is the only factor then your tactics need to change to combat this when it's not working!
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Ross will coach a more aggressive attacking style when he has the players to do so. We started tonight with all the attack and flare of an army of drunk and randy Vikings on the pillage and had the Hawks scared shit less. Alas Ross even as good as he is can't control the umpires.
Our season is over and now is a good time to reflect on the season and the highlights our team provided. It's also a good time to acknowledge the retirement of two of the most towering figures at our club. Pav and Luke thank you for everything.
I look forward to seeing A Pearce grow into the next champ down back and seeing Cam McCarthy and Harley Bennell tear opposition teams apart. 2016 looks OK to me.

i cant believe the lyon bashing, we dominated large portions of the game and could've won, the player's lost the game tonight not lyon, he has changed the culture of our club for the better, he has flaws but im backing him in to be thw man to get us our first flag

He's not stupid. We can't attack at all costs because we don't have the options down there. I would like to see a more attacking game style but until we can get someone that can take some strong marks and we don't have to rely on opportunistic goals we're in more trouble than......than.....something I can't think of.
