We have a Tall Poppy Syndrome culture in Australia. ... I'm guilty of it.
In recent years, I thought I understood why people booed him, but then out of long overdue respect, we realised that he felt the booing was possibly racially motivated or prejudice, so it had to stop.
Excluding my offspring, Goodes has achieved more in his life than I probably ever will ... it's easy to look for faults in such a person to make ourselves feel better. But any faults I thought I saw are minute in the bigger picture of the goals Goodes has kicked on and off the field. He has stood tall and proud, inspired many and educated even more.
He has given so much to AFL and our country and we are richer for it.
Good onya Adam Goodes, you're a bloody Champ.
