I thought there were bad decisions either way, mostly to Sydney. I just thought it was interesting and relevant that of the 35 free kicks paid on the day, 16 free kicks (nearly half) involved either Fyfe or Tippett. I've outlined my reasons why I don't think Fyfe will ever have the same free kick differential as Cotchin before, there's no point repeating it, and I thought Tippett was a dominant player on the ground, and forced us into free kicks against him.
As for home town calls, it's a phenomenon in every league in the world. That Campbell doesn't have a fix for it isn't a sign of corruption. Psychologically, if a crowd roars, it's going to draw attention to a possible infringement. The only way to counter that is to instruct umpires to ignore it (impossible) or actively work against it (dangerous ground). Add to the fact that Aussie Rules is a much more subjective game to officiate, and it's not a surprise it has an influence.
Also, teams play better at home, and make more mistakes away. I think this would account for some of the discrepancy as well.
