My take on it ...
After taking possession of loose ball on goal line, Wingard realises imminent contact with the point post and lowers his body and turns his head inwards towards play in preparation for impact with the point post. It appears on final step before contact, Hodge (in close pursuit), chooses to hip and shoulder Wingard. Hodge steps off his left foot and leans inwards towards Wingard. Hodge braces his right shoulder and raises his right leg in preparation for impact. Hodge's hip makes contact with Wingards head, causing it to also hit the point post with some force. Wingard falls down, but no sustained injury occurs and it appears to have no detrimental impact on the rest of Wingard’s game.
The MRP would have fair reasons to classify this either Careless or Intentional conduct. A case could be argued for either. The impact would range from Medium to High, given no injury, but force of contact was reasonable and there was the additional secondary contact with the point post, which Hodge needs to be held responsible (as per the AFL 2015 Tribunal guidelines which states "also any other impact to the Victim Player as a result of such impact"), and High Contact (fairly conclusive that one).
So the MRP may choose at the lower end of Careless, Medium, High which would be 2 weeks (down to 1 for early guilty plea), plus one for bad record in last 2 years, That is 2 weeks.
Or the MRP may choose at the higher end of Intentional, Medium, High which would go to the Tribunal and expect to get 4-5 weeks depending on how much they are concerned by the risk of potential injury by the secondary impact from the point post (remembering as stated in Tribunal guidelines, Hodge should be accountable for that impact also). No discount for early plea given bad record.
In my opinion MRP classification of Low impact could only be made if the secondary impact against the point post and the risk of potential injury are both ignored.
Or they’ll just forget all their guidelines and just look after one of their favourite boys once again.
