The only correct response would be to examine Suban's arm to see the extent of the damage. That way there would be a witness who observed it at the time. If the damage was there and obvious, he should have placed mastenaeeee on report,

The he could have sent Suban off for attention under the blood rule for medical attention.

He did none of those. Thast a fail!

Fremantle will be required to submit a medical report and there is no need to go off the ground if it's not flowing. An umpire should always have eyes on the game and not look and any little scratch that might come up and need kissing better, leave that for the medicos.

As for Masten, tribunal cases are on the "balance of probabilities" rather than "beyond reasonable doubt" so he's stuffed. A mark on the arm and Suban saying he was bitten would be enough to make anyone think it's more likely to of happened than not. And that is all that's needed for a conviction.

Totally agree with Yeti's 1st 2.5 sentences.
Surely at the tribunal the obvious question to Dalgliesh would be along the lines of "did you witness anything that resembled a bite mark on player Suban's arm as claimed?.
To not bother examining even for 1 second Suban's arm at all (the vision shows no looking at his arm) his only answer could be no I didn't coz I didn't bother to look.

A freo fan - play had stopped (with Dirk Wellham having taken a mark and being lined up for a shot at goal - reckon that call came back to bite Hyphen on the arse) and he took his eyes off the play to sort the 2 of them out from their tumbling about, another 1 second to look at the arm - given the seriousness of the allegation is not an unreasonable thing to do in fact he is derelict in his duties that he did not.
