I thought we missed Clancee across half back early when the heat was on.

We started with 7 back but it didn't help. WC got lucky early... good kicks and marks and frees - in the end it was the difference. MJ will be better for the run and Big Mac and Zed will make a huge difference. thats all I got.

What I learnt is that we are not as good as we think we are.
We lack consistency, I know we were not up for the game, but we should have been.

Unless, unless it was part of the long game to keep the Hawks in 3rd position, thus meaning they travel twice to the west before the GF. Ah but I dream, could that be true?

I learned that a game is not always won and lost in the midfield.

We got monstered by Darling and Kennedy, especially in the first quarter and this will be the impetus for Roly to bring back The Fist. (Along with Scos` suspension.)
We missed McPharlin as Johnno was quite rusty but improved as the game went on.
Roly stopped the bleeding in the second quarter by swinging APearce back and having Johnno as spare.
Neale, Barlow and D Pearce had games to forget.
Fyfe really was magnificent, almost single handedly along with Son Son getting us back in the game.
Hill was very good.
Our basic problem is not effort or heart or endeavour or any of those intangibles. Its simple structure around the ball. Time and time again 4 Dockers go in for a tackle, ball hunting leaving Shuey or Gaff on the outside or way over on the fat side seagulling for a spillage.
This zoning thing the Dockers do work for teams that cant kick and who kick long. We eat that for breakfast, but if you chip it short and work through the corridor to a man, with excellent foot skills ala Hawks, Richmond and even the Slime then we are in trouble. We don't seem to be able to switch to a man up situation to force the long ball down the line, which is what we want. We aren't on our men for the short hit up which is why its been a long time since weve seen the legendary Freo pressure exerted. We aren't close enough to exert.
Is there time and is there the want from Roly to adapt to this new, high scoring switch and chip and then cutting inboard to a leading forward style play that Hawthorn have perfected and now Simpson has brought to the egurls and even Richmond do it every second week.
We can still do it but we cant just rely on supreme effort every time. Its too taxing.

I agree Rufus and if that is the case maybe an outside mid such as Lewis Jetta is not such a bad idea.

(i) when Fyfe is inside 50 and has a set shot he should take it. Passing resulted in 0.1. (I think a net result of -5 after WCE went down other end and goaled)

(ii) look disinterested and sloppy early --- how many uncontested marks dropped? I haven't seen that from us for years and years.

(iii) didn't make them pay --- Missed set shots early which should have given us some momentum, and then missed a couple in 4th that really would have given us a sniff and got it back to 2 straight kicks.

(iv) Hill (our version) is just a jet. Ran himself into the dirt trying to keep us in it.

(v) Pity we lost even the commentators have started saying Alex Pearce news a Rising Star Nomination.

I learnt that if we don't win the next three games we may be facing off with a derby in the first week of finals.

Losing to the Eagles this time has it's "big picture" benefits and it feels like a win to me.
We'll get em in the GF

i) I was wrong thinking I couldn't hate the maggots any more than before the game. 32-19 is that much over the odds it's not funny. FYI it was 20-13 in R3 but no one cared because we won. So many frees for Freo missed but given to the Slime. Appalling.

ii) Pav looked like he was only going at 60%. Would like to see him rested.
iii) Walters will take the mark of the century very soon.
iv) Dropped marks and slipping over on a fine day is unacceptable.
v) Fyfe gets caught holding the ball too much.
vi) Josh Hill winning BoG is wrong on so many levels.
vii) Scoring 5 goals in a half is equally unacceptable.
viii) de Boer's kicking for goal will lose us a final if he manages to stay in the side.
ix) Although losing hurts, the result probably benefitted Freo.
x) Eagles suck.
