It's a dead issue now but I'm interested in this encroachment Quasimodo mentions, on existing residential development...
what did you mean by that? The only residential in the area is over the other side of the Polly Farmer freeway, around Victory Terrace? You'd hardly have been encroaching there... across 6 lanes of freeway traffic.
They've got other things to worry about now anyway... it seems a solution to all of this was right under everyone's noses...

(from May this year)
The West Australian Government is seeking interest from developers for two pockets of prime inner-city land which could be used as parking for the new Burswood sports stadium.
The land is near the East Perth train station site.
Tender documents outlining the plan reveal a new commercial-use building and a multi-storey car park, but there is no residential component.
The documents refer to the increased patronage and parking demands expected at the train station as the new stadium and proposed East Perth power station development get off the ground.
They also reveal the Public Transport Authority wants to enter into a public private partnership with the developer for the commercial building, largely offices, which could be up to at least 20 storeys high.
Brilliant. No need to worry too much about pesky trains, just let everyone drive down, park up and walk over the river.
From a carpark about 1/2 a km from yer footbridge, of course. So some people might end up with some more people traipsing about a bit. But it's all sorted! We're good to go.
