And just on that footbridge. It isn't going to lead pedestrians into the bars and restaurants of East Perth at Claisebrook cove like you'd want it to. Instead, it will dump you in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the vicinity of Trinity school and Gloucester Park. Apparently the wealthy denizens of East Perth (of which our Lord Mayor is one) were horrified by the prospect of thousands of feral footy fans walking past their townhouses and apartments in winter.
Only in WA.

Love it Shane :D
They should be included in our membership instead of the 'free' public transport...

I'm not looking forward to it.
Currently we park and have a 5 minute walk to Subi.
This new stadium though we will probably park in East Perth somewhere and walk....can you imagine that fancy new footbridge with rain and a crosswind.
We'll give it a go the first year but thinking it will be our last and staying home to watch on the TV.
Can you have a membership without seats?

Yep and that will Burswood's biggest problem. You will have almost no choice but to take public transport which is fine but it does require some preparation and time. At the moment I can leave half an hour before bounce down, park for free in Wembley, and a fast 10 minute walk and I am in my seat. Burswood will require more preparation, which is fine, but everyone is time poor it seems these days and that will affect attendances. I guess we will be able to park in East Perth or even Vic Park somewhere but the walk will be half an hour I'd reckon. For all it's lack of facilities Subi does provide great atmosphere which I think Burswood will lack, especially if it is only half full. Subi also has bars etc. and is a cool place to go before and after games. Now it will be Crown Casino...
Anyway I'm sure this has all been over before on dockerland but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced this stadium is poorly located. It will look good from the air but that's about it.

G'day,

I see opportunities for new Uber Wayer Taxi's to be built at Henderson to make up for the loss Frigate & Destroyer contracts.

Or we all donate a Tinnie each, joint them all together to make a half dozen or more bridges just like the Army Pontoon Bridges. There are plenty cheap tinnies out there as we aren't allowed to fish any more, mind you, the clearances for boats to go into Coilin Keys are so low, that only a Tinnie will get in!

I'm sure you'll all have fond memories of going to the Lavies at Subiaco in the three Tier Stand, there were so many to choose from?

Goodie, the feral footy fans will only be swamping upper-class East Perth every second week, every other week it will be Freo fans heading their way, a much more attractive option I would think.

FD1016, just like we have to on the northern line. Oh wait, we can get off at Leederville and walk a few miles to get to the stadium. Super convenient that is. The new stadium is going to be a belter. Catch the train and get off at the stadium station will be easy peasy, not sure what the uproar is about. The sooner it moves from Subiaco the better. As far as I know, there will be no gun to your head that makes you go and punt at Burswood after the game. For the life of me I cant see what the whinging is about other than the usual "WA itis". Subiaco and its surrounds are an absolute bog hole and I am more than happy to give Burswood a go. Subiaco and its surrounds have absolutely nothing going for it.

28,000 people can fit on the trains from the stadium station. 7,500 can get on at the East Perth station. Capacity is 60,000. There is no parking.

I'm also a northerner. The walk from Leederville is 15 min at a fast pace. After the game mrs hump and I like a Shiraz or 2. Fire and ice near subi station is closed. Last time we grabbed the train from west Leederville joining the great lemming March under the overpass. The platform couldn't handle the number of people eventually got a train. A train to Burswood and quick walk is better a train to the city for a Shiraz or 3 will be nice with a station designed to handle the crowd. Who knows once in a while we might even go the Jimmy Trackdacks place down the road. I am happy with Burswood.

They would have built a new train station wherever the stadium was built or even if it wasn't built.

Stop doing sums, Shane, you know how much that pisses Colin off. I mean, he never does them, so why should we??

It's lazy to write off opposition to the Burswood proposal as simple WA itis.

It's a poorly thought out project that features illogical solutions and bad planning. That is WA itis in a nutshell.

Subi council's attitude to footy follows a similar trajectory. Subi could have thrived and grown around footy events but they chose not to do that and that suburb is now floundering for lack of forward planning.

Sooner or later people will wake up to the fact that city living means compromising on some life qualities that they hold dear and the possibility of having a regular crowd on your doorstep might also mean having better amenities and facilities on the same doorstep. Burswood as a plan presents the need for a major investment in support infrastructure like transport in order to work. It promises to be a white elephant because it will be a major occasion facility only, not a complementary one. The investment needed in public transit will lie dormant most of the week so it won't be nurtured. Picture a windswept, vandalised and dusty train station platform... that shouldn't be hard to do, this is Perth after all and they're all over the place.

There's no point complaining about it now as the thing is almost a done deal and is being built.... but please, don't try gilding a faded lily and telling me and others that it's a good plan, because it isn't. It will suit a few thousand footy fans every week during the season who like new, shiny things and don't see past that singular experience... for a lot of other footy fans, it will probably be a negative compared to their current experience of attending. For a lot more people across the metro area and out in the regions, it will come to symbolise everything they see wrong with what they think is favouritism in spending on football over other projects.

Perhaps there's an argumetn that it will serve as a gateway or flagship icon for the city and state... I suspect that's a factor in the reasoning that has it out where it is, so it will look good from an aerial tv shot at sunset with the crowd streaming in... but even that falls flat because it won't physically link with anything apart from a freeway and a footbridge to a carpark behind a trotting track.
