Apparently traffic congestion around the new stadium is now a concern. Who would have thunk it!!

I assume that no one saw this coming .... other than the thousands of potential spectators who have been saying this for the last 5 years. Perhaps the highly paid specialist consultants who are putting together The Colin-seum should read Dockerland occasionally in order to better understand the limitations of this poorly chosen location.

It won't just be vehicle traffic. My understanding is that Mandurah line train passengers will do the changeover at Perth Underground --> Perth Platform and then reverse at the end of the game. Plus, I cannot for the life of me work out why they think its a good idea to build a whizz-bang station at Burswood without any escalators.
Has anyone actually worked out how far it is to walk from the new station to reach the stadium?

Just back from a trip to old Brisbane town where they have their public water ferry service all sorted. They use these really awesome shark-cats that have a shallow draft and because of their design minimal wake (which damages the river banks) is produced. Apparently the expert experts in WA have examined this option but our river is different???!!!??!
Having inspected both rivers up close with my eyeballs, I came to these startling conclusions:
I) Our river like theirs has water in it (Tick)
II) It has river banks consisting mostly of earth same as Brisbanes (Tick)
III) Both rivers are outside (Tick)
IV) Many private and commercial vessels already use the river (Tick)
Other than those similar factors I could not see prohibiting factors (I am by no means a highly paid expert though). Is there a factor I am not factoring in?

Gotta agree with bp about the water ferry system in Brisbane. Why the hell we have no water public transport system on the Swan river astounds me.
With the Colinseum being such a stupid bloody long walk it's also a perfect opportunity for a little water taxi system like you see in many forward thinking, not backward hicksville Perth like places.
Actually, forget forward thinking and replace it with sensible and due diligence.

Just a clarification Itscraptacular. I'm certainly not teary eyed or nostalgic about Subi! But I am bloody annoyed that $1-2 BILLION of OUR money is being spent on such a poorly thought out and over priced option. I only see one big winner in this whole mess and Packer is the last person my tax dollar should be helping.

biggest problem with Perth ferry efforts to date is they never tried to match up connecting buses. can't speak for Brissie ferries (but river there is narrow, not estuarine, right?), but in Sydney they have buses that'll drop you right to the wharf

What a load of farcical carp the new stadium is turning into.
Travelling the Mandurah line to footy like a sardine is just about bearable knowing it's more or less door to door. The thought of having to change trains and hike to the stadium really p*sses me off.
I'll have to get the tinny out and chuff up the coast, it'll be quicker, can pick up 3 others on the way...

PS The Brissy ferry system is awesome
