Drubbing, I agree that it's a minority who bring racism into the heckling that's directed at opposition players.
I also think that a majority of the WC fans who booed Goodes had no idea why they should boo him except a vague feeling that he's not popular and everyone else seems to be doing it.
And given that I come from a soccer-playing nation where NOT booing is considered ill-bred, and even booing your own players is good form, I have no problem with the booing.
I also believe, however, that the abuse Goodes cops is out of proportion to how dirty he's perceived to be by other teams' fans, and that it seemed to take on a life of its own once he stood up and protested against racist abuse from fans. I really do believe that a lot of his unpopularity stems from his unwillingness to be a good, quiet Aboriginal and let us all persist in our comfortable believe that racism is really not a big enough issue to waste time worrying about.
It may be a minority spouting the ugly rubbish but try telling that to the indigenous players who are expected to just suck it up. Jetta backs his mate up with a war dance and now he's in the firing line.
