I think there's plenty of grey here.
Goodes has turned into a free-scrounging old chuffer, and deserves boos for playing for them so blatantly and taking cheap shots, with equal impunity. I'd boo Harvey or Stagey for the same reasons. I see nothing wrong in the footy boo, and find it offensive people bring race into it.
Then there's elements of the crowd that boo and vilify. It's depressing to hear this goes on post-Winmar. I haven't heard any in my 20 years on the pine. Maybe my seats aren't cheap enough, even though they feel it.
But to lump the two together is lazy journalism at its worst, in search of an easy headline. We love to bag WC supporters, I live for such small and important pleasures, but I find it hard to believe it's nothing other than a minority who are racist.
The Richmond game was a wall of booing. Have any of our Aboriginal players said the same happened to them? If it does, they should rightly say so. But if the AFL and media think they can lump booing and racism together with no discretion, then they're just looking for an easy solution to a deep and scattered problem.
