It no longer matters why he is booed. What does matter is just how hurtful it is to him and related others. A hurt where there is no longer any argument to justify the reason for it.

I didn't realise how this has affected Goodes until today.
Footy classifieds tonight aired an interview with his Mum and they even talked about him leaving the game immediately , if that happens it will be a sad day as he deserves better.
While I'm not a fan of his I think the continual booing must stop against him and others.

To balance out the negative karma and extremely poor form displayed by the WCE on the weekend, I was pleased to hear this story on PArrgh radio this afternoon.
A little old lady rang in condeming the booing of one Adam Goodes. She went on to say that she had attended a game between Freo and Carlton as she had won tickets from the radio station.
She went on to say that further more she was pleasantly surprised that when a Carlton player took a good mark or did something speccy, all the Freo fan's applauded the deed. She said this was much better than the behaviour displayed by those who shall not be named.
I think this speaks volumes about the other mobs fans as the radio announcer was all primed for her to say that we were worse, he really was taken aback.

My idea of fun at the footy is a good game, with some ribbing of any opposition fans nearby. Yes, I want to piss them off - and I expect they are trying to do the same to me. But if its done well, we go home happy.

I can't understand the slimes fans, as they genuinely seem offended that anyone would barrack for the other side. S G I O, clap clap clap.

I thought when Goodes did his dance it was a little bit provocative, but given The Slime treatment of Goodes, I now respect and understand that Lewis was provoked in to doing it to show his support. In no way did I think Lewis provoked the crowd and if you saw the footage, you could see The Slime crowd have no reaction to Lewis other than their typical elitist Pffft.

I wish I hadn't read that Perth Now article now. The amount of self-justification on the part of the Slime supporters is breathtaking.

What it all seems to boil down to is:

i. Blame the victim for inciting the mob. I see the same thing with sexual assault cases, and I don't by it there either.

ii. If he just shut up we wouldn't boo. Seems like we've got a case of "he's an uppity n*****" going on there. Mickey O hit that one right on the head.

iii. We boo white people so we're not racist. There's been plenty of arguments shooting that one down in this thread.

So to summarise, they like their indigenous footballers to sit down, shut up and be bloody grateful that they are allowed to play in the white man's world.

Fewkin' rednecks.

Here's a thought for my purple comrades back in Perth. If Sydney play Freo in the finals, let's cheer him instead. And if there is a better use to be found for a 'we applaud what you have overcome' banner, i'd like to hear it.

And if you can't bring yourself to cheer for whatever reason, don't boo. Don't encourage the idiots.

And let Adam Goodes represent his people the way HE chooses to, not the way that makes us feel least uncomfortable.

When A. Goodes did his celebratory dance after kicking a goal at the Carlton game, (with the action of spear throwing),
it looked to me like a boasting action, similar to gloating. Being directed at the Carlton fans, I didn't think it was right.
Carlton were being thrashed, (everyone seems to thrash Carlton) and they didn't need someone to drive that fact home to them.

When Lewis Jetta did something similar to the booing Eagles supporters, I thought "Good onya mate".

And I did not vote for Col Barnett.

My view on this?

If you don't agree with what Goodes says or how he says, thats fine. As adults, we can surely respectfully disagree and state why. Personally I think Goodes has a bit of an extreme view, not wrong but he sees extremes where I see it things being not as bad. That doesn't make him wrong, nor should it impact on how he chooses to express things.

Respectfully disagreeing as adults, of course, does not include a campaign of booing and derision.

I will happily boo Margetts or Fisher when they act unprofessionally and show their bias but when the moment has passed , we move on.

The immature reactions by the mob who target Goodes says more about them than Goodes' conduct and what its says isn't pretty. Lets not pretend otherwise. All these non-racists are targetting an individual for what ever reasons they care to admit but Goodes is being targetted. Do that in your workplace and you will soon be looking for a job, so why should his workplace be any different?

I'm getting to the point that if you cannot act like an adult then just don't act at all. Sit in the corner and shut the **** up.
