Why not try C Blakely in the centre, and throw Fyfe into the CHF role. Try it for two or three games, if it works happy days, if it does not then change back. At CHF Fyfe still has the ability to influence what is happening mid-field but is also able to be an excellent marking option forward. His skills at ground level mean he is an absolute devil to match up on. He has the potential to be devastating in that role. Starting at CHF also means he is not being heavily tagged at every bounce.
I think he has the potential to be every bit as good as Wayne Cary at CHF, he has the leap, size and is better on the deck than the Waynester. Blakely is a monty to play in the midfield lets just bring it on, this small positional change could be the fine tuning move needed to bring about a massive change to our ability to score. If not, like I said earlier go back to what we were doing, its won us twelve of thirteen games so far.

IMHO, part of the reason that Fyfe is so good in his one-on-one battles this year has surely got to be his size and height advantage over the other midfielders in the league...and whilst his speed and ground level ability would pose issues to CHB's defending him should he have a long-ish stint at CHF right now, I do wonder whether it will diminish his ability to win just as many one-on-one tussles, given that he will be matched up to someone of a similar physical ilk...

So whilst I don't think plonking Fyfe at CHF at this stage is the right thing to do given his midfield dominance (kinda robbing Peter to pay Paul), I do believe that there is ultimately where he will end up some time in the future once we do develop the abundance of midfielders in our list. I mean, can you imagine if Fyfe gain another 5-10kgs of muscle to be near the 100kgs mark?? It will be a frightening prospect for the rest of the comp...

The point has been missed that Fyfe is also very quick off the mark, so he would easily out-run any backman who has the unfortunate role of playing on him. If he bulks up too much, he'll lose that speed, he's just right the way he is.

Well, not necessarily...adding a few more kilos of muscles will not take any of his explosiveness away (just look at Usain Bolt, fastest man in the world weighing in at 94kgs), but it may affect his aerobic capacity...so if the plan is to have Fyfe at CHF on a more permanent basis, I'd be in favour of bulking him up just a bit more...

But like I said before, reckon it will be a few years before we even contemplate this...

It's not worth contemplating. I don't notice other teams moving their players away from where they are dominating.
e.g Pendlebury is deadly around the goals but the Pies don't play him as a half forward.
Josh Bruce used to be a promising backman who is now second in the Coleman. Put him to full back?

Pendlebury doesn't have the attributes for CHF, Fyfe does. As for bulking Fyfe up, I remember Freo recruiting a young fella who was thought a bit light for AFL footy, but he played a couple of seasons and went pretty good. Then some bright spark pushed him into the gym and "bulked him up" a bit. Took away his leap, and explosive pace and made him seem like just another not quite got it player. Paul Medhurst.

Of course sending Fyfe fwd more means we'd lose an inside midfielder that stands 190cm & weighs 85kg.

Those type don't grow on trees ya know.

Oh whats that we have a 188cm mature bodied 85kg kid called Blakely ready to go in the 2's.

I for one wish he was lining up for his 6 or 7th game by now but alas he doesn't have what it takes yet apparently.

Be brave Roly give the kid a crack it might be the master stroke that finally gets you a premiership.

Your long established strategy of constantly playing the hardened warriors has, to date, left you repeatedly short of the ultimate prize.

Why all the angst about young Blakely and his non-selection. We've been fortunate that our midfield has been intact. I remember Lachie Neale, drafted at pick 58 in 2011. He debuted in Rd.4 in 2012, because of injury to Fyfe I think, when he done his shoulder. Neale, wasn't in our best 22 until the 2013 GF. At this moment I don't see him in our best 22.

Roly, contrary to popular belief, has given a few young players a go while at Freo, and the selection panel have a reasonable record of judging when to and when not to pick these players. I too would like to see whether Blakely can live up to his potential, but there is no real reason to rush him into the side at the moment. Moving Fyfe out of the midfield would provide a reason, but the expert selection committee on DL cannot agree whether that would be a smart move or not so Roly continues to maintain the status quo in that regard.

Any way back to the topic, I would like to see us go after Hogan,Cam McCarthy or Charlie Dixon.

One of these blokes would set Freo's future up just nicely, I personally would go for Dixon , he's done the development years and ready to go.

Dixon is from Cairns and Brisbane have apparently made a good offer, it will depend on his ambition, to win multiple premierships with Freo alongside Nat Fyfe, spoon fed by Steven Hill or stay in Qld.

It wouldn't surprise me if Bondy sets out to sign Jesse Hogan, but comes back with Jesse Ventura on a 5 year deal
