Polly, I assume you are referring to a short kicking game, do you think that is why we are coming undone cause we seem a different side when we have the ball , I certainly see what you are saying when we are defending - those short kicks seem to leave us with over laps.

When you can tell me why Collingwood, GCS and Brisbane can take marks inside 50 to make a game of it in the wet, and the top of the ladder team can't, and has to scrap for its goals despite dominating forward pressure in all these games, then you've got nothing to worry about next week.

Wet or dry, this game should have been Ovaltined by half time. Brisbane and GCS have won 2 games all year FFS.

But Drubbing, we did take marks inside 50, just butchered the shots on goal...Sandi missed a sitter in the 3rd, and there were several diabolical attempts in that second quarter...we really have to convert our opportunities next week for us to have a real shot at downing the Weepoos..

I'm with Jez though, we are seriously missing Johnno in the back line, and his ability to set up us up offensively..

As great a player as Johnno is he solves none of our current problems. Ibbotson is killing them down there and is our best player along with Walters.

Yeaaah. We're missing MJ, so that's why we suck kicking for goal....

I need more analysis than that.

Inside 50s were 53 to 31. We smashed them. We missed set shots, and they got soft goals from frees.

Also, we're 12-1. We're pretty good.

Send the B-Mantle team to Tassie. Get the old blokes to put their feet up.

This is my very point. We were all over them from half time on, but nothing was happening on the forward 50. We arsed 2 goals from nowhere, and kicked about 3 OOB and 3 behinds from stock set shots. 3 goals in 5 minutes in the last quarter virtually iced the game. That's how the game should have gone from Q1, against a side that can't beat anyone else in the comp.

Play a really good team and you're not going to get that sort of forward domination in the first place. Wet or dry.

Only got to watch second half. Saw in the final few minutes before halftime them gifted two frees in front of goal. Otherwise, once again a dozen scoring shots, bugger all entries into their F50, and we won, primarily by kicking more goals than them in one quarter, if they hadn't been gifted goals.
Our movement, as Ross pointed out, was too slow, due, in previous weeks in particular, to not receiving equal frees in equal situations with equal circumstances applying, and a slight lack of hesitance from the mids.
We definitely miss the guiding finger of First Johnno.
Bring on the Hawks, on a sunny day, please.

jezzaargh Question 8 years 9 months ago #26

jezzaargh
we had a cracking start to the season. we got the jump on quite a few teams in the 1st qtr early on and you are certainly not going to be able to do that every game. each team we play will review the previous games for the season and work us out.

a few of our "second tier" players have gone off the boil and hence we have actually made some changes in the last few weeks - you need Clarke, Tabs, Duffield etc to be in absolute top gear if we are going to cane it like we did in rounds 1-7.

MJ and Crowley are two of our most valuable players if past season Doig counts are anything to go by (and, in MJ's case, current season Doig counts)

We have been a team that has thrived on killing it from turnovers in our defensive 50. MJ has been the come from 50 man. No one really replaces what he does (a bit like no one can replace Roger Hayden). It affects our whole structure as players move to different roles

When we had some close calls with teams coming back at us after we got out to 50+ pts, I didn't see the sort of weak kneed, bandwagon jumping off-ish posts that we have had since our loss to Richmond

I doubt we would give up without a serious fight, but indeed we may well get smashed in Tassie next week. so what? there are a few rounds still to go before we get anywhere near to finals. we need to find our form at the right time and not sure round 15 matters in that bigger picture.

Drubbing you're doing your best to stoke the fire. So who are the good teams then. You've got the budgies, Swans and Hawks who, by the way are all below Freo on the ladder. We've beaten two of the three. I reckon you should just keep your powder try until we play a good team.
