TOPIC: Aaron Black

If the best player available is a midfielder, sign hjm. Move Fyfe to CHF, he should make AA as a key forward. It was the pathway followed by a bloke called Pavlich, and it worked pretty well then. Plenty of critics said we couldn't afford to move Pavlich out of the midfield as well.

We've already let Hogan escape once, Polly. I'm sure with the bumbling Bond on guard duty he will escape again.
But I would love to shake my fist, feel my monocle goggle and say, "Hooogaan!" or my name isn't Werner Klemperer.

Seriously, people are contemplating trading Sheridan for Black? Seriously?

He's worth a second rounder. Maybe a third as well if they don't make finals and bring him back for the last 6-8 rounds to improve his trade value (like we did with Warnock). I'd grab him for the second rounder. Has a decent tank, good bloke (used to play against him in Bunbury) and he's got good hands. Wouldn't necessarily replace Tabs/Ape in the pecking order but we'd lose nothing for with that trade. Sheridan for Black is a bloody ridiculous trade and Norf would be trying to conceal their laughter signing the deal.

If we could grab Black and Rance in the off-season then I'd say we've done well. Realistically, what are we going to do with our second rounder (probably pick 34-38)? Black has a few years in the system, a decent leg and hands and a west aussie. We've got a plethora of mids already and if we are looking at a KPP he's already done half an apprenticeship and would keep Tabs/Ape honest. What's not to like?

As far as I can tell, only one person is contemplating it - and they named themselves after Scott Thornton.

If you want to get a quality forward (regardless of who he is) you have to give up something. We will have poor draft picks this year so they will be of limited value. We have a thousand players like Sheridan so they become your obvious go to resource.

Black would of course be handy, as would Kersten who is struggling to get a regular game at Geelong. As long as we don't see them as the big marking power forward saviour. Their both 192 cms tall, which is actually shorter than Fyfe and Mundy. They play more like Darling the slimer.
Come to think of it, have we ever had a big, good key forward besides Pav?

The operative phrase being "quality forward" there Walter.

Judging by freo's past trading history we should give up our first round pick and keep the second.

If the Evils can win a premiership with Quinten Lynch and Ash Hansen up forward then there is an argument that serviceable big forwards are all you need and I use that term generously referring to the above mentioned plonkers.

Get Coniglio and Yarren and freo will be in premiership mode for another 4 years.

Tabener could be our plonker?

Those in favour of offering up Sheridan for Black are forgetting one very important thing - Ross the Boss has man love for Tommy. He's not going anywhere.

I don't understand the need to keep Sheridan when he's done so little and we have 10 blokes in the WAFL who could do his role and probably better. I'd happily offer him as trade bait if he had value.

As for Black I think he's an improvement on Tabs and even then would at least provide adequate back up forward which we don't have now. He'd improve our squad so don't know why there's so much opposition for him.

The only issue I have is I'd rather put those resources towards Yarran or building towards a trade for Hogan/McCarthy next year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I would not be interested in Black unless it is in exchange for a Peel midfielder. In the big picture, sometimes situations demand making BOLD moves. We are talking about the next ten years of our footy club here.

Sometimes you just have to say -Lets get Hogan and not worry about the cost. The Steves saw how important getting an A grade coach was for the long-term good of the club. They grabbed the small window of opportunity to got ROLY. I am hoping they rate the importance of a young key forward with the same importance and move heaven and earth to get him

We will have plenty of salary cap room with Pav and Luke moving on , and we have a heap of midfielders we could trade with. Also we are much more appealing to someone like Jesse now that we look like being in the finals for sometime

If people don't want to part with Sheridan, I'd love to see the reaction to Melbourne's asking price for Hogan.

A while back I suggested packaging Barlow with some picks and young players to land a young KPP (I think it was Hogan, but it might have been Cameron). People wouldn't even entertain the idea.

Broughton, Michie, Sheridan. None of these players move the needle towards a premiership. Having a bloke over 190cm to kick it to might be helpful. Especially if he's as handy as 2013 Aaron Black. The concerning thing is that Waite is getting a game ahead of 2015 Aaron Black, and Waite is a spud.
